I am due for renewal on 2nd March and the price quoted is £7.50. If I renew now, would it change the date to March 07 or is the year taken from the date of renewal i.e. 1st Feb? Jacky :-) |

O.K. I'm lucky, I renewed on 2nd of January. So if you have paid over the odds unless you read the message boards you would not know that you had to claim back the difference. What about the period of time that the extra £ are in Genes account? Not a great deal of interest to be made on £3 but if you have say 54 million people listed on here thats 540000 members(100 ancestors each) 240000 paid up members (its an easier figure to do !) 240000/12 (statistically 1/12 will be renewing each month) That gives 20000 multiplied by an average of £2 = 40000 a month extra cash to place on the money market. A nice tidy sum I guess. Why can't GR just do a survey about pricing the same way Documents online have just e-mailed me about? P.S. Its worth completing their survey theres a £50 prize up for grabs. |

This is the reply I got from them today regards price increase to £9.50;;;;; on 2/2/06 We have been carrying out some price testing over periods of 24 hours which is why a handful of members have seen different prices. If anyone is unhappy with the price they paid then they can contact us directly and we will be happy to look into it for them.;; They didnt say they would put mine back down to £7.50 cheek Babs |

Stick to your guns , you are not being unreasonably. Perhaps they are trying to see how many people are PREPARED to pay the £10.50p..... then they can put it up for all! Deanna X |

Going to have a try Deanna, not that I dont think site is worth it, but there has never been any mention by them of prices going up, and as been said on this board and tips, they are suppose to give 28days notice, so very cheeky of them doing it this way;; Babs |

Jean, yes they did say no twice............. here are their answers: 1. Thanks for your email. The discrepancy is because we are testing different price points at this time. If you renew and are charged £10.95 please let me know and I will arrange a refund of the difference between that and £7.50 the normal renewal cost. Regards Erica 2. Thanks for your email. As Erica, explained, we have just been testing different price structures on the site. We need to do this on the actual site to guage customer's reactions. If you do upgrade and you are charged the higher amount then please let us know and we will be happy to refund the difference. Regards Estelle 3. Thanks for your email and for your comments. They have been noted and passed onto our management team. Regards Julie wouldn't mind but they didn't even apologise OR have the decency to tell me it was back at £7.50, was only by chance that i found it. suppose i have been quite lucky that they actually replied each time, some haven't even had that! i was adamant that i wouldn't renew at all unless we were all charged the same price, i am not greatly against the increase, it was the fact that everyone was being charged different amounts. Jay, yes I agree with you, like I said I dont mind a price rise if that is what they are doing but to charge someone on the last day Jan. £7.50 then another £9.50 and someone elde £10.75, just smacks of been very unfair to folk, I will be e-mailing again regards then trying to charge me £9.50 and will post as soon as I get a reply but last one took a week;;;; Babs |

The thing is, if it is meant to be a test to see if people will pay, it is not a good one because people on these boards know it is a test and are paying in the knowledge that it will be refunded. what a way to run a business!! Ann Glos |
