Dee, you must have lived in Ware. The Drill Hall has just had a mini makeover and has swish new glass doors. Can I ask where the Burtons was in Hertford? Was it by the Stag on Parliament Square? If it was there is still a snooker hall there but its over a Kebab shop, record shop and 'nite club' now. |

Janet I come from Hoddesdon, but the OH is from Ware Burtons was near Gravesons, not on Parliament Square. I used to work in Parliament Square, and there was a cafe called Christine's. Whenever I see the 'soup of the day' sketch with Julie Waters I think of that place Dee ;-)) |

Well, it was Fosters when I was a kid... then by the time I was in my teens it was a second hand furniture shop called 'Lyons Den' I think... for the last few years it was an asian greengrocers and now its a Halal Butchers I think. |

I'm afraid Gravesons went a couple of years ago. Its now a Monsoon and the tourist information office. The offices above are now luxury appartments. How long ago are we talking? I've been in Hertford since 88 and I can't remember a Burtons. What I do remember is a Fine Fayre in Maidenhead Street opp. Woolworths (Now Macdonalds) a Wimpy (now a bookies) and horror of horrors, the wet fish shop Claydens closed down a couple of weeks ago. |

Have to say they've all gone now. A new open air shopping area (I refuse to call it a Mall or centre) stands where i believe the Arcade stood. (between Bull plain and the bus station) it was built in 83 and houses Boots (which moved from maidenhead st) Waitrose, New Look, WH Smiths and a host of other little shops. |
