As Jane has already said, this is a civil partnership not a marriage. Marriage is the union between a man and a woman.

Why are we talking about gays like they are the flavour of the month 'They're lovely' Why should'nt they be they are no different from anyone else except from their sexual preferences, infact we're all lovely :) As for being in the army - that's up to them, they must know that they are going to come out at the end of the tunnel by the skin of their teeth. I have a brother who was is the Royal Marines, and believe me you would get jumped on just for having a squint - Look what happened to Prince Edward - having a HRH before his name did not stop them jumping on him in their boots - and all that was said was that they were trying to toughen up the drip Mmm right. I have no objections whatsoever to 'Homosexuals or Lesbians' however I think the problem is that some people feel Threatened by them,Why I know not.The ones that I know wish to get on with their lives 'Privately' and not be 'Outed' as people like 'Tatchel'and that ilk, seem to delight in doing, even though to a vast majority just want to get on with just living their lives as everyone else does,so why not let the alone to do so?. What if the two army personel were in the same regiment serving in the same battle? And say one of the partmership was of a higher rank? would having such a close emotional envolvement in one of your collegues put you at the risk of making unwise decisions? I knw that husbands and wifes in the army marry, but it is more likely that they are in different roles. I don't see a problem, and I don't think there ought to be, with gay service men and women forming a partnership, but it was just a question that I thought about...... Claire xx

There are real criminals out there having less hassle than Gay people. Time to mind our own businesses. If some one gets on with their life and lets me get on with mine.. it is not my job to interfere with theirs. Deanna X

I hate that word 'Lesbians'. Reminds me of school when kids would go round saying, 'Ah! ya great big lezza' Tsk! No problem with them though.

I think the Civil Partnership Register is a good thing which gives gay people rights in law that we haven't had before. It's quite revolutionary in a quiet way but because it hasn't gone as far as creating gay marriage it's kept the majority of the religious zealots from creating merry hell with their well used relevant quotes from the Bible which has made it easier for the majority to accept. Most things work both ways. There are nice and nasty gay people and nice and nasty straight people. I've got no objection to a straight couple going through a marriage ceremony and I don't see why anyone should have any objection to me going through a civil partnership ceremony if I choose to:)
