C.B, I agree about the Irish They are by nature more friendly. I also agree about the north and south, Im a northerner buy birth, I know some arent as friendly it depends where you are in the north, the same as in the south. |

On the whole we are a very friendly and tolerant race of people, but increasingly I feel that we are being taken advantage of as a country and people are fed up of it that plus all the terrorism and crime , is it an wonder that people are wary of other people ? That all may sound racist, I can assure you that I am not racist in the slightest, but I am very concerned about the way our country is heading, its not just people coming into the country, it is also the people that are already here (no matter what race, colour or creed) there seems to be a total lack of respect for our fellow man and that all leads to an atmosphere of distrust and disharmony |

Well, I'll give my opinion on whether Northerners are friendlier than Southerners after I've been to the Middlesbrough Meet, but having met people from all over Britain and all over the world during my 30 years of work, I haven't found Northerners to be any more friendly than anyone else. I'm not biased against because my Dad was born in Sunderland and most of my relatives live there, but I can think of a couple of Northerners I've met whose manners have been atrocious, but then I've met Midlanders, Welsh and Scots who have been just as bad. You can't judge everybody by a few. I'd have to say that Irish people have probably been the friendliest I've encountered. I'll talk to strangers in the right sort of setting, but I wouldn't talk to jjust anybody I passed in the street. They'd think I was mad! CB >|< |

I agree with Darth that people from the North are a lot more friendlier than from the South . I myself come from the North East but have lived in Yorkshire for over 30 yrs and people here are very conservative . For many years Geordies have been voted the most friendliest people . Just my opinion no offense to Yorkshire folk as some of them are the exception . Cath |

I think it depends where you are. Every day I take my dog for a walk and everyone nods, smiles or stops for a chat. Chic bar though, thats something different. I think there is prbably a big difference between country and town. Chris |

And what about that fellow down south who found a message in a bottle and returned it to America castigating the sender for depositing litter. Seriously though, we are not as friendly as we used to be - everyone seems to be rushing from one thing to another. Happy days |

You can't judge an entire race on a few people in a bar, they are hardly representative. I think it depends. Sometimes people want to be alone and don't want to get stuck in a conversation that's difficult to get away from! nell |

I think the Scots are friendly folk - some people up here reckon that the West coasters are friendlier than the East coasters (Glasgow v. Edinburgh) but I think its pretty much depends on the individuals |

Depends on which part of Britain you live in. I find northerners more friendly than southerners for the most part (though there are exceptions to the rule!). |

I just got thinking about this today. I went for my walk with hubby today we stopped off at a little bar for coffee, it was obviously a 'Brit Bar' and very clicky, when we went in everyone stopped and looked at us as if we were aliens from another planet!!lol no smile or anything, miserable lot!! If you go into a bar in Spain thats Spanish, you always get 'Buenas Dias' 'buenas Tardes' or whatever time of day it is, even if you go into a doctors waiting room people acknowledge you, are we rude or just shy?? |
