Hi Dave, I too was painfully shy as a young girl and woman. I am still shy, but more able to fight it. I have a much better time now. My husband is shy, and my son too, until they get to know you. Shyness is a terrible affliction, isn't it? Deanna X

Hi Dave Contrary to popular belief I am shy deep down but fine once I get to know people. Years ago I was painfully shy and would blush at the slightest thing but now am older find it easy to say hello to people and tend to natter away on first contact but thats just why i am. S x

Im surprised at how many people suffer it really! Yes it is awful being shy yet in a way it has a certain honesty about it does that sound stupid? Certainly in the company of ladies I would blush for next to nothing. When I was 16 I worked at a place ,and a young lady being nice and friendly used to smile at me every time she saw me, but I used to go really shy and blush every time I saw her, and I cant even say it was because I was mad about her! I'm extremely shy I think. I get really nervous in social situations. I just can't walk up to someone and speak. I can be a bit more talkative when I get to know someone really well but I'm known to be quiet. I'm definetely not like the way I come across on the internet I think lol :-)

I am extremely shy until I get to know someone. I have no confidence at all in new social situations although I do put up a sort of front to cover this. I don't think most people realise I am shy because my 'front' does cover this quite well.
