Good evorning all . . . . well it is evening here and morning at home . . . . The holiday has come to an end and mores the pity - have had a wonderful time! Am currently sitting in the old Club lounge waiting for our flight home. Its a wee bit late leaving, but I dont care as long as they have the plane in ship shape condition before they take us on board. (and as long as the drinkies keep coming) Will fill you all in later, but am on a high tonight - had my second day at Kew today, first wasn't much to rave about the info I gathered didn't help with the impression of the place. BUT, today I have a new perspective on the place, think it was mostly me on the first day - not knowing where to find stuff and not getting much help from staff. Today I even came away with a physical description of my gtgtgramps, even know about his tats! Gwenda - yes, I did get up early - 4.45am in fact, pitch dark - was still dark when I drove down the mtn at 6.20am - and boy am I soooooooooooo very tired now - off to bed as soon as I finish this! I went to see Ready Steady Cook being filmed (2 shows) - very interesting to see behind the shows. I even shook hands with Peter Everett, and did a Hi 5 with him (my poor sore hands!) Afternoon All, Can you please whisper when you talk about gardens and weeds, I am sure they can hear you and grow taller. My excuse is that it is too hot. Yippee, I can now get Broadband. Well after next week. I won't know myself. Is it easy to self install the modem etc??? Forgot to thank everyone who give me info on how to open attachments. I have managed to open most and will download software when I get on Broadband. At the moment it takes too long. This morning on Tv they were discussing that the number of closed friends that people had , had dropped in the last 2 decades. It got me thinking. Since the Wattle club started I have made lots of friends and I have only met one of you. Is it sad that my new friends are only over the net? I don't think so, What do the rest of you think? Hope you sell the caravan Mary, but I am sure it will be a sad day when you do. Going to the hospital tomorrow to see the diabetic educator and the dietician. This time with Neville, the doctor thinks that he has diabetes now. I am going with him because it is ages since i went and new things may be available. Well, must go, catch up later SuzyQ

Arvo Wattlers Well here we are at 1400 replies! Yayyy! And they said it wouldn't last ha ha ha. I put a thread on yesterday about a Gas Street in Bolton. Got some great replies from peeps who are more than willing to help me. Aren't most of the people on this site wonderful? I have cyber-met so many good people......it is well worth the membership. Afternoon everyone, Vonny - yes great day for getting the washing dry - should also be out in the garden with the weeds - heck they aren't going anywhere just getting taller by the minute so maybe tomorrow. Lara - hope your gardening is going okay - Vonny and I are thinking of you - hehe Got your email finally - just had a clear out again - not that there was a lot anyway - now just got to get daughter to clear hers out. Lew Lew - you must be getting so excited - not long now - I would like to be moving - it's the only time I get to tidy up and have a good clean out. Mary - all the best with the sale of the van. Hi everyone Lovely day here today but could do with a bit of rain.. Put the add in the paper for next sat. re the sale of the caravan...you all have to say a prayer it sells quickly as I dont want to spend weeks near the bb phone..after the caravan goes its trade in the 4wd for a nice sedan that we can tour around in.. Had to go down to the Mall today to do a big shop as the poor cupboard was bear... sounds like a nursery rhime dosent it..LOL ... nice to see the freezer getting some food in it.. Anna What a interesting tale you will have for your family history..makes it all the more interesting for the future generations.. When I put my story down it will be how I grew up alongside the jails of Singapore and Malaya..didnt know I was a jail bird did you...LOL Grenda. Lets hope the itch is the right one this week,,, keep scratching... Lara How did the gardening go.. I am finding it hard to get going some days and it could be just the reaction to being away from home for so long and all I want to do is sit at the moment.. The garden really needs looking at but will give it a lower priority.. for the time being..Thanks for the info re the Australian Family History Book.. Morning all Now don't get twitchy Gwenda - tomorrow is the day - I have it all planned so think positive thoughts tomorrow folks and I'll do my very best to come up with the right numbers! Lara - glad to hear you are getting back into the garden. Go girl - it takes a lot of strength to put life's adversities behind you and get on with living but I believe you're a strong girl. Visualise the garden as you want it to be and that mental picture will inspire you to keep on going. Sending lots of hugs and positive thoughts your way. Been reminiscing this morning and have been reading the copy of my Mother in law's eulogy which my ex delivered at her funeral. My ex's father was the custodian to the Governer General in Sydney and they lived in a cottage in the grounds of Admiralty House on the Harbour opposite to where the Opera House is now. HIs father had a heart attack when my ex was about 12 and his father was at home confined to bed recouperating when the Queen mother visited Australia in 1958. It was the weekend and all the staff were off when a phone call came to say that the Queen Mother had expressed a desire to see Admirallty House. So M.I.L and ex had to race around pulling the dust covers off all the furniture and making sure all was ship shape then get their best gear on to meet the Queen Mum's barge. M.I.L. escorted the Queen Mum around Admiralty House and my ex 's job was to raise the flag as she stepped onto the grounds. M I L told me so many stories about the experiences she had at Admiralty House and she has some lovely crystal ware that Lady Slim, wife of the Governer Sir William Slim, gave her when they were living there. I have included her eulogy in my family history folder for that branch of the family. (She is the one who can trace her family back to Lieutenant George Johnston and convict Esther Abrahams of the first fleet but it's by marriage and not a blood line). She was the last 'elder' of the family - we are the older generation now. I'm going to do a bit of gardening myself today - nothing exciting - just tidying and pruning. Can't water as it's not our watering day and of course we have to water with buckets or watering cans - can't use hoses. Even that will be stopped soon as our dam is down to 24% now. Morning all, Anna - I hope you are buying our Lotto ticket today - my right palm is itching - might be a good omen - but don't blame me if our numbers don't come up - this is not a surefire sign. Overcast in Canberra today - might get some rain - not holding my breath - it would be nice - but can I get my washing dried first please. Tony - talking of the old days and you mentioning freckles - I don't remember seeing too many freckled kids these days - is it because they don't get outside in the sun as much as we did? Joodles - hope you managed to get up this morning and that you switched your lights off when you got to your destination. Only a few more days of pitch blackness in the morning - yaaayyy. I don't mind the few extra hours at the end of the day but what's the point of having to put lights on all over the house in the morning. good afternoon all been a good girl and been working in the garden that I havent touched since coming home last so depressed just didnt want o look at it or know about when you come home and all your beautiful plants are dead from neglect its a bit of a downer and losing my mum and then the carbeing wiped of by the prodigal too was the reason for being so sad but better now and could face it mainly due to you lot makes you realise you are not the only person who has heartache and problems and nothing is a bad as it seems,a trouble shared is a trouble halved is so true when it comes to you lot thanks my mates ' For those who wanted to know about genealogy fairs, open days, etc the best way is join your local family history group if not a joiner then get the australian family history book that comes out monthly and it will tell you in the back who is having a fair or open day when and where apparently, well worth going to one from near where your peeps come from also they had micro fiche there with the readers etc so you could look up peeps from the uk too . very well done and we have one in Yarrawonga in May too I believe. How exciting Lew Lew moving in eh don't forget the photos when you are finishing making the poor removalist move things a dozen times before you are happy with it where it is lol and then when they go Terry can make the final moves hehhe Babs re your son like Lew said he is heading for the lucky country he'll be fine and this will really make him happy he'll be new man and the kids will be able to come out with Nan to stay with dad and you'll decide you should be here too , what State is he going to please? Hello all Gwenda, - it sure is dark at 6.00am in the morning, in fact when I got up earlier in the night - it was much lighter (not sure if its anything to do with the moon). Tomorrow I actually have to be out in the car at 6.30, I hope I wake up in time. I remember open air picture gardens, but then I am from Perth, and we had very hot summers. It was so exciting to go to the gardens, and if you were rich, get a seat in the deckchairs - always take a rug, it could get cold, but then again if you were with a male ?????!!!! (The 'poor' seats were hard timber garden seats - hated them, they were so hard on our poor little b*ms). Actually we could see the movie from our front verandah steps, but not the sound, almost like silent movies again! Tony, my street was 3 blocks long, and even to this day I can remember every family on my left (2 blocks) and some across the road, and some on my right, tho I do forget a few now. I'm talking about a lonnnnnnnnnng time ago too. I can remember that better than I can remember what I had for breakfast yesterday ! We walked miles to school - well, about 2 miles??? and if it rained, we walked in the gutters - why???? got our shoes and sox all wet, didnt we?. I remember Mum bought me a lovely pair of patent leather shoes, they were my 'best' ones, as opposed to school shoes. This particular day we had been out, and the shoes had got wet. Dad used to open the oven door, and we would sit around and get warm, even put our feet on the door. Well this time mum put my shoes in the oven to dry out but uhmmmmmmm - they turned up and went all out of shape - I was soooo upset!!! We didnt have that many boys in our streets, not that I was interested in anyway, so I didnt have chewy in my hair, or kiss boys with braces! We had bushland across the road, (later a park) and one day a white horse appeared. Knowing they were 'lucky' I went over to pat it - it thanked me by kicking me in the groin. Down I went. B*****dy thing. Never been that keen on horses since then. Anyway dont get me started on childhood memories, I'll go on forever - they were the bestest times! Jood

Afternoon. Bit cooler in Melb. to-day and O/cast skies. Was working around the Colligwood area of Melb. this morning, and went to visit the old house where i spent my chldhood in Richmond in the early 50s. I drove down the street, and the house was gone...:>(( ....been turned into a factory. Many of the old buildings were still there, but all the houses are gone now, so it was a bit sad to see. We lived just behind KODAK industries, in Abbotsford. The old style tar footpaths and blue-stone gutters were still there, so i got out and walked the length of the street, as the memories came flooding back. The paper boat races we played, sailing our boats down the hill when it rained and the gutters were flooding. The girls playing Hop-scotch and Skippy in the centre of the roads, and the boys playing marbles, and Bily Kart racing. The street wasnt very long ( about 10 timber houses on either side ) but there were approx 30 kids in the street under 16 years of age. The boys in shorts with braser's, and the girl with there pig tails and bobby socks. Just about every kid in the street had freckels.....lol When the boys met face to face with the girls it was 'Spin the bottle' time. This worked out who liked who.....lol The girl i had my eye on was called 'Sissy' ( a nickname ) i think, and lived 4 doors up......... and what a kisser she was....Aaaahhh.......didn't eat my weetbix for days.....hee hee...but i had a bit of trouble with her Teeth brasers!!! ...I remember coming home from school and when i turned into my street, i hid up the back lane and waited for her to come by so i could carry her books.. ( Chivalry was still alive...:>))) My best mate who lived up the back lane was one of 16 kids ( two sets of twins ) and it was bedlam in his house, but everyone was happy. They had there Dinner/Tea by relay....Youngest 5 kids ate first, working up to the oldest. We are still best mates, and he lives in Dandenong and has 5 daughters ( same as me, strangely!!!!!! ) Must have been the water we drank back then..........or all those girls we kissed, giving us girl germs...lol Was thinking to myself while walking down the street, what happy kids we were back then, and we all got on well. Across the road lived old Mrs.Card ( a widow ) who used to hide under her kitchen table, everytime there was lightning and thunder.....lol 2 doors down was Mr. Giggy ( a widower ).....and late at night, we would spy on him going into Mrs.Card's house with a bottle of Gin......( naughty Mr. Giggy )......lol The whole street knew, but no one said anything, and during daylight hours you would see them passing each other in the street.....Good morning Mr.Giggy............Goooood morning Mrs.Card they would say. Both of them would be about 120 years old now, if they were still alive. Down the bottom of our street lived June Salter from T.V fame. Some peeps may remember her......Gordon Chater, Carol Raye, Barry Creyton ( 1954 - 1959 ) er'a. Up the road for awhile lived a very young up and coming teenage group of aspiring musicians ' The Deltones'.....Pee-Wee Wilson.... * who had moved down from Sydney *.. we think,...and listening to them play and practice was great. By this time i was at the bottom of our street, and it bought back many happy days. Amazing to think what we did, and how much fun we had without Tele.
