OK, Suzy....let me try to explain about memory sticks without getting it ALL wrong! Any of our Waffle friends who see I make a mistake...............please post the correct info. I don't mind so long as the right info gets posted. This is one of the reasons we are here......to help oneanother. So.......a memory stick is a small, external, removable piece to back up files, like a floppy disc or a CD. Except they are put into a special 'plug hole' called a USB port. The sticks are about the same size and shape as a disposeable cigarette lighter. Depending on your need, you can get the sticks in various 'memory' sizes. (PMSL just put mamory :o)))))))). The external dimensions stay the same but the amount the stick can hold varies with how much you need or want to pay. The beauty of them is that they are very portable, easier to store than discs, re-useable, fit any puta with a USB port & (depending how large a memory) hold heaps of info, even photos. You can go to your local library or family histerical society, use their puta, plug in your stick to back up your info then go home and put it on your puta. No reams of note paper or photo copies. I hope that has answered a few of your questions. And I hope I didn't get too much of it wrong. Regal ~~~~~~~wave love Trifley Queen of the Nile

Good afternoon wattlers A lovely sunny day on the bay, plenty to watch as I get some of the dreaded chores done - though chocolate does sound like a good way to assist the iron glide though. I dont think however it is warm enough for swimming and there are three out there doing just that as I type. Major update on the giraffes . . . . not a single one with its head up, so the docks must be full. Yes, Jude I know what you mean about Hongkers harbour, its the same in Singapore and Jakarta - always seems to be hundreds of ships waiting off shore for a berth - but then they are all major transfer ports and we are just a little end of the liner. I have had so much happening on my FH - it's amazing, brick walls are only made to be crushed. The Danish couple I met up with in Sinapore on the first day of our trip have been in touch and have another friend of theirs working on my research for me . . . a new search of NSW Archives on line turns up the will of gtgtgramps (the one originally from Denmark) . . . . wasn't there about a week before I went away !!! I have managed to find out heaps of info on the ships other gtgtgramps served on in the RN, photos, voyages, ports of call etc. Its keeping the old head spinning !!!!! I checked out NSW bmd this morning and no changes . . . drat at least its better than it used to be on the deaths and marriages. Lara dont count on us for Friday night - we will be there on Saturday though with bells on . . . Hows the puter probs going Devly ? Did you manage to kick start it again ? I backup all the time now - learnt by my mistakes. I'm an advocate of the old memory stick too Trifley - Joodles introduced me to them and wouldnt be without them now, much easier than a heap of discs, though I have my discs for specific things. I did most of our photos into albums on discs for the boys last year - so now we all have a complete set of family photos. (My back up plan) Glad your feeling better Julie Cat because were over the woes here too, nothing worse than a male when hes ill and yes we had a wonderful trip thank you - cant wait for next year now as we have more big plans !! Lara, I know how you feel - I so remember writing a letter of thanks to friends I had a holiday with years ago, only to put the first copy in the envelope and mail it. I'm not telling anyone what was on the draft - ever! I tried to get it back off the post office but they wouldn't hear of it! Needless to say we aren't friends anymore. Thanks for reminding me (NOT) I've got the guilts again. Whats the diagnosis on the dress Rebs ? Hope its not a start from scratch job for you - that would be enough to cause high energy mood swings. Not saying anything about Joodles and the firies . . . . except how clever is she ???? (proud of you girl) Whats this about lunch on Thursday Shaz . . . where & when ??? Mary we will all do a little jig around the kitchen timer for you when you get a buyer for the van - how is John ? did you go back to the doctors yet ??? Anna consider yourself in the really truely naughty corner till you get those alarms fitted girl !! Hi Suzy Q . . . How r u . . . ??? Dont tell me you are going to get up to the caper of growing capers !!! The reward sounds good though. Maybe a few of our wheat farmers should diversify - not much money in wheat at the moment. As for the memory stick, they are just little thingys that slip into the usb port on your puter and its just another way of saving stuff instead of your hard drive, the old floppy disc, your cd's or your dvd's. They hold heaps more than those other methods, are easy to carry with you. They will be obsolete before long too I suppose. Ah poor Rebs, just think deary they grow up and leave home - the idea is not to make them too comfortable so that is sooner rather than latter - I wasn't good in that dept. one of mine is still at home - he wouldn't go so we did! Suzy, I think all of us who sew would have to admit we do that - go to the shops and take the details down on paper in the dressing room (every girl carries a tape measure in the hand bag don't they) and go home and whip up our version. My neice and I were always doing that - even did it with a friends wedding dress years ago at Anthea Crawfords shop (slaps wrist) Now that I have written War & Peace I feel the need for a cuppa so will catch you all later cheers luv Laurie

Afternoon Wattlers, Spent the morning at a work related education session.......now feel much more brainy.....well at least not as dumb as some. some people were really annoying. The guy would just finish explaining something, and this woman ( who didn't appear to be listening) would ask a stupid question about the very thing he had been explaining, grrr. Susan, we grow grains, oats and barley last year, and probably the same this year. We are dry land farmers, so are limited as to what we can grow without irrigation. If the weather is with us we cut oaten hay for the export market, but haven't managed to do that for three years running........maybe this year. We don't keep stock, because we don't live on the farm and it is too hard to look after them properly. I have just upgraded to Legacy 6.0, and you should be abe to transfer your tree to genes using a GED com file. Just go to import/export tree on the genes site, and follow the instructions. I don't have much of my tree on genes because you should have any living relatives permission to put their details on the net.....My relly's would freak out. I know you can just put 'living & surname', but usually it is the dead ones that you are looking for anyway. Hope this helps Susan, i am sure there would be someone more techno than me who can explain it better. Ok i am off now to do a small bit of H*******K, then i think i deserve a cool one, especially as i didn't grab that stupid woman and chock her to death........showed much restraint......gritting teeth, I guess she couldn't help being painful. Take care Wilson

Hi Rebs, I can understand what you mean about the pressure for the girls to have the right clothes. I knew a girl who did ballroom dancing and ice skating. Her mother also was a very good sewer and Caroline was also very spoilt. I think she had a new outfit every time she went out. Even when she was older her mother made all her clothes. They used to go and try on designer dresses and Sheila would make drawings, then go home and make the dress. Very sneaky. Sometimes I am glad that I never had children. SuzyQ

OMG !!! I've just cleaned the bathroom the boys of the house use. I'm now permanently traumatised. What in the h*ll do they do in there??? Susan, the girl sew?? Don't think I'd cope with the stress levels. hehe!! The fabric we used is pre-sequined. I guess they're attached using some sort of heat bonded glue. Normally the fabric we use is the metalic type sequin, and have never had a problem with it, but this stuff had transparent plastic sequins. Not very successful at all. Live and learn I guess. lol!! Have to admit though, sometimes I wonder if it's worth all the fuss for the level she is at. If she was an open dancer I wouldn't have a choice, but as a primary/intermediate dancer it's a lot of fuss. There is so much pressure for the girls to be dressed and wigged in the latest. I really pity the mums who can't sew and are forced to buy. Not many second hand dresses are available, and the new ones can cost between $800 for a really simple basic design and style, and up to $1500 for the more elaborate ones. I saw one dress that was custom designed, and I had seen the fabric retailing for $500 /m. Think her parents had more money than sense. Wonder what they will be prepared to pay for her wedding dress??? Trifley, thank you for saying I'm allowed to be tired. lol!! Hasn't this weather been a pain? Back to the humidity again now the dregs of Larry have all but disappeared. I can put my jumper away again now. Oh, and 'tit-tape' is actually a glue used for personal use to keep low cut revealing dresses in place. The girls use it on their legs to keep their socks up. Cardinal sin to have your socks fall down in the middle of a dance. lol!! Speaking of jumpers Mummy, what will I need in Y'wonga for May? I only own one pair of jeans that fit, a single pair of trackies for dagging out, and 2 not very thick jumpers. Even the jacket I own is lightweight. Am I going to freeze my a*se off????.........ooh, but I do have a very lovely pink scarf. And I could always bring by Carlton attire. pmsl!!

Ah Queen of the Nile, You sneeked in before me. I think we are getting Melbourne's weather. Today is a shocker. Very humid. I too have a box of my grandmother's old photos with no information and no one to ask either. very frustrating. All this talk of hard drives and memory sticks, I think that I should go for computer lessons or something. I am the only one who uses the computer and I still have half my memory left, so I think I will stick with what I have for a while. I do like the idea of having my family history on a memory stick, please tell me more. Off again SuzyQ

Hi Everyone Hope you all had an enjoyable weekend. It's warm and overcast today, hope we get the rain that is forecast for tomorrow. Glad you are feeling better Lara and that you are no longer red faced. Wilson, What kind of farming do you do. I was watching Landline yesterday and there was a couple in SA who are growing capers. The only ones in Australia. If you plant an acre it can earn you $100,000.00. Did seem a lot of work though. We have smoke alarms, they do go off when the batteries are running out and it always happens in the middle of the night. Anna, we first bought the cheap ones from the supermarker about $10.00 and then we got talked into some that were $35.00 from someone who came knocking on the door. I can tell you that there is no difference. It is important to have them though. Mary, sorry to hear that you still own a caravan, but you have had some interest which is good. Why don't you sell that guy your 4WD as well. you said you wanted to sell it. Julie cat, Glad to hear you are feeling better. Where do you live, I'm a Yorkshire lass originally? Rebs, first I would like to congratulate you daughter and secondly i would like to comiserate with you on the dress repairs. This may be a silly question, but does your daughter help with the sewing of the sequins? Will you have time to make a new dress for August? Congratulations Wilson hope the programm is up and running. Is it Legacy 5.0. That's the one I have. If so, can you tell me how to download it to GR. I have tried once, but it didn't work. I have a lot to add to my GR tree and I don't feel like doing it manually. Laurie, where are you? Off to do some FH Bye for now SuzyQ

Afternoon my fellow Wafflers What is it with the weather in this b****y state (Qld)? The weekend was cool with occasional showers and today the humidity has returned! Track suit away and back into the shorts. And people talk about Melbourne weather!! Anna......don't worry about not winning the lotto. I haven't finalised my wish list yet so I'm not quite ready for a fortune heee heee. Our Rebs....I can understand you feeling sleepy...I blame it on the weather! Don't worry about it, just sleep when you need to. Your body is telling you you need rest.........listen to it! Congrats to your very talented daughter for her dance wins. Maybe one day we will see her on Michael Flatleys 'River Dance'. By the way.........what is 'tit tape' used for (or shouldn't I ask?). Hi Patricia...sorry we wont see you in Brisbane you will miss a great time. Then again.........maybe we will need someone to bail us out. Keep yourself free over that weekend incase we need you ha ha. Tony, did you get pickled onions and a piece of flake with those tattie cakes? I'm getting hungry just reading the posts. I was born in NSW but spent some of my formative years in the wonderful state of Vic. It was there I developed a taste for Noahs. Gotta have a piece of flake........yummmmm. Jude2....hope your hubby's 'self inflicted injury' is healing fast. Not for him but for you. Men can sometimes be 'difficult' when they are not feeling well. Aaahhh Wilson, unlabled photos. Doesn't it make you frustrated when you can't work out who people are? My hubby's family must have kept the profits high for KODAK in the late 1800's early 1900's as we have a stack of photos...........NONE of them labled!!!!! We have even been desperate enough to measure distances between ears, eyes, hair lines and noses to try to work out who the he*l someone is. I make sure every photo we do is labled with names, place, date, and reason for gathering. It's like a small story on the back of photos but will be worth it for us in the future. Hi Devily.....computers.....don'tcha just luv 'em? If you have one which is more up to date than mine (Windows 98) then you should back up your files on a memory stick. I have been told by many people that this is the a good way to ensure you don't loose years of work. When we win lotto I'm upgrading and getting a few of the little buggers! A friend of ours suggested we should get 2 hard drives, one for the 'tree'. But Mark said we were just as likely to have problems with 2 as one. He is one of many advocating memory sticks. Anna..........get yourself off your a**e and get some battery operated smoke alarms. And as Mary said....don't put them too close to the kitchen cooking area. The idiot who put the wired in one in this house put one of the sensors over the oven. Needless to say it goes off even if we burn the toast! If you pick a memorable day in the year to change the batteries you shouldn't have too many problems. Better a squeeking alarm than being dead from smoke inhalation! Thats my rant for the day:o) Lew Lew.....glad the move is going well. It must be very exciting. To all those cyber friends who have been under the weather.....healing thoughts are on there way to you all. To those I haven't mentioned.....big hugs to you. Talking about photos has given me the urge to do some work on the family album. See you all later. ~~~~~~~~~~~~waves from the royal barge. love Trifley Queen of the Nile.

A Russell Crowe???? Mary.....lol pmsl!! It was quite satisfying really. The damn thing only had a new battery in January. This was piercing enough to wake up next door, and the nosy b*gger across the road. I think it was the smoke alarm having a Russell Crowe. lol Anyway, after going off two nights in a row for no apparent reason, then again 15 min after I had crawled back into bed, the blasted battery wouldn't come out so I chucked it against the wall. A chunk flew off in one direction, the battery came loose from it's moorings and went in the opposite direction, and the rest just sat there spinning away on the floor. Anna, nearly wet myself laughing over your comment to Rudes re the tattie cakes. Wasn't very fair of him, was it? Never the less, guess what I had for dindins last night. Cholesterol or no, they were just too irresistable for my taste buds to ignore. Being good tonight though, got a nice pan of stew cooking as I type. Your on the home run now Lew Lew. Soon you'll be planning a big house warming party. Are you coming up to Brissie in June? I keep meaning to ask then get side tracked. Joke........... A very sexually active woman tells her plastic surgeon that she wants her vagina lips reduced in size because they were flapping in the breeze. Out of embarrassment she insisted that the surgery be kept a secret to which the Surgeon agreed. Awakening from the anesthesia after the surgery she found three roses carefully placed beside her on the bed.Outraged, she immediately calls in the doctor. 'I thought I asked you not to tell anyone about my operation!' The surgeon told her he had carried out her wish for confidentiality and that the first rose was from him:'I felt sad because you went through this all by yourself.' 'The second rose is from my nurse. She assisted me in the surgery and empathized because she had the same procedure done some time ago.' 'And what about the third rose?' she asked..... 'Oh, that rose is from a man upstairs in the burn unit. He wanted to thank you for his new ears.' Have a good day folk. love Rebs x

Morning all Naughty Lara - as Lew said - take yourself off to the naughty corner! A massage in there would be good for your poor sore muscles anyhow. Lew - glad to hear you have survived the weekend - when do you actually sleep in the new abode? Computers off line for a few days sounds like the onset of withdrawal symptoms. Devly - glad to hear you had a good weekend. We are very naughty - we don't have fire alarms but have been looking into it lately. Am completely confused as to what to do so we are going to get the firies to give us some advice. Don't want to wire them in but I hear so many stories from people who are fed up with them going off randomly. Rebs - how frustrating about the damage to the girl's dress. You'll need that little electronic machine to put things right. Julie - glad to hear you are feeling better. Please send us some of your rain - I'm sick of lugging buckets of water around trying to keep my garden alive. Tony - hope you choked on your rotten tatie cakes - not fair to come on here skiting about fattening food to all of us who are trying to keep our cholesterol and blood sugar levels on an even keel!! Jood - I'm suspicious of you calling on those nice muscley young firies to change your batteries..... no ulterior motives there I trust????? Not cold here yet - just a wee bit fresh early in the morning when we go for a walk. Hope everyone has a nice day......and remember - 'God gave us our relations but thank God we can choose our friends'. Anna
