Afternoon Wattlers We have a beautiful day here on the Gold Coast and I hope it stays that way for a few days. We are having a slab laid for a garden shed and rain is a no no for that sort of thing. Tony.......you must feel great being able to help someone. I sure she appreciated it too. I know I did when some one in Bolton helped me. Lara......I hope Tiger is feeling better and not spreading his germs too much. Don't let him near the computer.......you know how easy it is to spread a virus with these things pmsl :o) Lew Lew....Graeme still works but I retired a few years ago. I don't know how I ever found time to work ha ha. I guess a woman never really 'stops' work. She just moves on to do something else in her life.......charity work, looking after grand kids, helping hubby in his work and house work. Different things, it's just that you don't get paid for them once you retire...........bugger! Anna...........if you are going to start to flaunt yourself around this thread in sexy underwear then I'm going to have to make sure Graeme stays out of here! I've told him we are just a bunch of genteel, middle aged women who like genealogy. And man.......sorry Tony pmsl :o) If he thinks we are a bunch of fun loving, happy-go-lucky, women who like a drink and a joke he might want to come with me to Brissie ha ha ha. I had best be off now as it is time I had a cup of coffee and a sit in the sunshine. To all of you I haven't mentioned............a big wave and hug from me here sitting on the royal barge. love Trifley

Hi Wattlers, well I'm back and my head hurts from reading 7 pages of wattle waffling. Its taken me a couple of hours to catch up on all your news. New bubs, new cars, bits that need lifting & re-arranging, choccy hangovers, rude (lol) jokes - good grief you lot talk about some varied subjects. I was so excited on Saturday as I had an itch palm all day - but I think I must have just been allergic to the merbau decking boards we were laying at the time lol. Go forth Lew Lew and purchase the winning ticket will you - please - I'd like to experience the 'R' word too. Got home from Alexandra late Monday night to avoid most of the traffic - it worked only saw about a dozen cars all the way home. And spent all day yesterday doing washing- it was a great day for drying the wind was blowing the clothes horizontal - I love the smell of the washing as it comes off the line - mmmm, doing lots of catch ups on the h*******k, and making quince jelly, quince paste and a quince tart tartin. Kens uncle has a tree and has an overload of them, I still use Kens grandma's recipe for the jelly and haven't had a dud lot yet. Mind you he has to get through all the jars I have made, not buying any other jam until its finished! Welcome to Ruby and Lucas, glad to hear both mums are doing well. Congratulations Mary on your new car, can't really go wrong with Honda, we service quite a few of the newer civics and all the owners are very pleased with their cars - you will be pleased to know that I can't think of anything going wrong with them. Have booked time on the computer at home tonight so I can hopefully put photos on ASL of the cottage (with help of course). Eldest son has just walked in, has done something horrible to his shoulder and is off to osteopath for treatment. He reckons he hurt it pulling down the verandah of the cottage on weekend- his dad told him he was a wimp. Now he has an office job not used to manual labour lol. (Have been trying to finish this for a hour and keep getting interrupted - grr.) Just read Tony's message re GR query - how wonderful you were able to help Norma -it makes it so much nicer when you get a message of appreciation for your efforts. Anna now wondering what sort of hobbies you have? black mesh stockings and bustier - hmm interesting. lol Hope the ticket is a winning one Lew - fingers crossed catch you later jude 3

Day's/O'days/ Dea/O'Dea...Night & Days.....Day & Night's........:>)) Had a GR message from a lady in Ireland looking for an Uncle that came out in 1954 with wife and two kids. So sat up till 1'00am this morning searching through the records.......and found him...:>)))) Here is what she had sent me. 'hi there tony sorry to bother you but can you tell me how i find an uncle who went to oz in 1954. i think he went to Melburn.Best wishes and thank-you for ant help you can offer'......So i asked her for some more info ( Names )and then she sent me...... 'hi there Tony how kind of you to offer to look up the death index.i would be so delighted for you to do so as i am sure he is now deceased.his name was Walter Henry Wilson McAnoy married to Elizabeth. They had two daughters Mitilda and Muriel. He came from Belfast .Ireland I am almost sure it was 1954/57. His Father was James and his mother was called Isabella Walter was born approx 1903 hope that is enough info. Thank you once again for your kindness best wishes Norma.' And from this info i was able to respond with an affirmative. Hi Norma. Well it looks like we have had some success. I checked my Index's for Walter, but couldnt find a Death up to 1985. So i tried for his wife Elizabeth, and found he death listed. ( below ) Death registered. Surname: MCANOY Given Names: Elizabeth Father: Steele Walter Mother: Matilda Death Place: COBU Age: 74 Age Code: Year: 1985 Reg Number: 21076 Event: D ******************************* Then tried for any children that may have died with the parents listed as McANOY...and found his daughter Matilda ( below ) It appears she married into the SULLIVAN Surname. Death registered. Surname: SULLIVAN Given Names: Matilda Steele Father: Mcanoy Walter H Mother: Elizabeth Death Place: CARL Age: 40 Age Code: Year: 1985 Reg Number: 20290 Event: D ************************** So i thought possible that Walter may have died after 1985....but my death index only goes up to 1985....so thought i would try a few local Cemeteries that are online in Melbourne.....and was successful. Melbourne's main Cemetery is Fawkner Crematorium. DECEASED ENQUIRIES Surname Given Names Date Of Death Service Date MCANOY Elizabeth 28/08/1985 30/08/1985 MCANOY Walter Henry Wilson 6/02/1990 9/02/1990 DECEASED INFORMATION Fawkner Crematorium And Memorial Park wishes to advise that the location of the buried remains of the late Walter Henry Wilson Mcanoy who passed away on Tuesday, February 06, 1990, aged 82 are located at South Lawn Row E Grave 15. O'k so now we look at the Melbourne White Pages Telephone book to see if there are any McAvoys still living in Melbourne. And i have found one only listed. So went to bed last night with a good feeling and have helped someone find a lost relo. Tony Oz...:>))

Good Morning wattlers, Retirement is wonderful, but there is still lots to do. No one suddenly comes in and takes over the H*******k. Neville keeps telling me that I am not really retired because I am not pensionable age and I should still do some work, ( he doesn't mean to go out to work who would keep him supplied with drinks and food if I did,). My reply is, when I do reach the right age can I stop all the h******k, shopping cooking etc. Lew you will really enjoy it. Lew if you get the winning numbers I will personally fly down to Mudgee with 2 dozen fresh free range eggs for you. Laurie, I put all the old straw complete with chook poo on to the compost and let it rot down. It can burn if you put it down fresh, as you will see if you take a look at my lovely new turf. 2 acres to roam in and they prefer the new stuff. Guess what, I have just been brought a lovely cup of tea. So he does know where the kettle is. Rebs, I know the hot matches can be a pain and most are deleted, but I have had about 3 that have turned out to be good. I need to update my tree on GR, hopefully this week after I get broadband, so when I do I may also get too many. Funny thing is, not many peeps contact me from hot matches. Lara, I do hope tiger gets better, men are hopeless when they are ill. You have just reminded me that I need to book in for my flu jab. I hope everyone else gets their's. Anna, I hope that you are busy moving this week end, at least you won't have to worry any more about looking for a place for your son. It's shame about the money though. I will pray for a lotto win for us all. Guess it's time to go, shopping this afternoon and we are going to 'do lunch' first. Now heading for the shower SuzyQ

Morning Folk. What a gorgeous sunny day here on the peninsula. Jood......Rudes is probably still slumped in a sedulous stupor over a slab of VB. (say that quickly 3 times) After all, not often Collingwood wins 2 consecutive games. lol!!! Forgot to say, I went into Southbank on Monday to investigate possible venues for Brissy meet. Bad idea!!! Being a public holiday the place was swarming with peeps. Think I'll try a day mid week when there are less kids around. If I say about a dozen of us, is that about right?? You lot still do the hot matches thing?? I gave up on them long ago, 15 pages of Banks and Birch, and usually repeated no matter how many times I deleted the damn things got a bit too much to handle. Lew Lew, Mudgee meet isn't turning into a surgical convention is it? lol!! I'm relatively happy the way I am, although a massage, facial and manicure would be lovely........dream on Rebs!!! Anyway folk, I'm off to write a letter. I owe this friend about three so I'd better get on with it. They take so much longer when they're hand written. Catch up with the rest of the thread later. Laurie Report 18 Apr 2006 23:55

Good morning all, another glorious morning on Botany Bay, the sun is up and weaving its magic on the water, like a giat disco ball. Some time overnight a Tanker arrived at Kernell, about an hour ago a load of containers left, and ask I type another ship arrives at the heads laden with containers. The two giraffes with their heads in the morning sunlight will most likely have work to do shortly. The Beachcomber tractor has been - done his job and gone off again, there is a little old man down on the beach in front of me 'wetting the line' - he came prepared - has the chair and the thermos ! A little one and its mum are playing nearby in the sand, and the constant stream of regular walkers and joggers on the beach and the sidewalk keep the picture moving. (Just remembered . . . there is wall to wall traffic on the roadway between me and the beach, but I learnt long ago how to block that from my picture - dont b o v v e r me at all!) Hi Suzy, hope all that good stuff out of the chook yard went onto the garden - your plants will have a big smile up if so! Good luck with the brick wall - seems most of us have made connections on Hot Matches, so they do work! I know they are a pain to sort thru - but were experts at sorting through names anyway, so the effort is worth the results. There was a lot of knocking them on the boards in the begining - but that seems to have settled down now. Poor 'Tiger', what did he eat that you didn't Lara ??? Make sure you let them know in the kitchen at the club - so they throw out any offending food before we all arrive, dont want anyone else with the icky tum! Lara I liked your little prayer - I found this one a while back in a genealogy magazine 'God grant me the grace to accept the ancestors that I find, the tools to find the elusive, and the wisdom to know which of my friends find it all too boring' Lew, love your answer to the age old question 'Lunch!' . . . reminds me . . I'm doing 'lunch' with Joodles tomorrow :-))))) Retirement is as good as you make it - just like everything else in life - I can honestly say I have never had nothing to do. I have had 'real' retirement since we moved to Sydney over four years ago - finished 'going' to work 5 years before that but had full time job at home. We took on the role of foster parents to a darling little girl with disabilities and fought the 'system' to get her out of the foster system with a support package so her grandparents could afford and cope being her carers and guardians. That was rewarding . . . This is bliss . . . . A few weeks ago, through GR I made contact with Stuart in Perth, (we share gtgtgramps Parks in Dover) . . . This week, I have had the pleasure of being able to send him photos of our gtgtgtgrandfather, gtgtgrandparents and a copy of a lovely big studio photograph of his gtgrandfather (my gtgranduncle) with his entire family - taken on 30th May 1901. Thank goodness for aunty Jen who kept EVERYTHING - and they are all in such good condition, picking out common features is a breeze. His grandfather came to Aust in 1905, and he has no other photos of the family in England - so feeling good'n'smug about the sharing thing. Hope the Mudgee newsagency has the magic numbers for us Lew, (bursts into song ' . . . Our day wiiilllll coooommmmee . . . . ' Have a great day everyone cheers luv Laurie
