Lew Lew, on the subject of driving earlier ~ A man walked into the doctors surgery with a steering wheel stuck down the front of his trousers. The doctor looked and asked 'What is that?' 'Don't know' replied the man. But................................. 'It's driving me nuts!!!' Yeah, yeah, on my way..........lol!! |

And good morning to you! Funny smell coming from the wattle corner this morning - better spray the whole area with some lavender air freshener. Aaaahhh - that's better! Glad you are back in one piece Devly after your big adventure to the main land. OK -I'll say squarking instead of crowing next time!! Lew Lew - good luck with the purchase of the lotto ticket today. Keep the change from the 50 and buy lunch!! Oh - the places we have lived. Hubby No1 and I were transferred to Melbourne in 1970 - we had a company apartment in South Yarra. I loved that place - used to wander around the shops and hop on the tram to town. My favourite place was the Victoria Street Markets - I'd never seen markets like that before. They were so colouful and cosmopotlitan. Trouble was, I fell pregnant with my first child that year and everytime I went to the meat/fish section, the smell would cause my stomach to start churning. When I first lived in Sydney, I was nursing at an aged care facility called Strickland House which was on the harbour at Vaucluse and we had our own private beach and spectacular harbour views. I lived in at the nurses' quarters so it was a beaut place to start my life in Sydney. However, when I got married, we moved to a flat at Marrickville - little Italy - and lived next door to a huge Italian family who had chooks, vege garden etc. Italian Papa used to chase a rooster around the yard to cut it's head off for Sunday dinner. What a hoot! Then we bought a house in the North West of Sydney - North Rocks with all the other young families. I remember it used to be a matter of pride to have one's washing on the line first in the morning. If anyone hung out washing after lunch they were really looked down on! Oh those lines of whiter than white nappies. No disposables then. God - I'm sounding like an old woman reminiscing - I'd better stop before I start saying 'It wasn't like that when I was a girl'. Jood - 1st hubby used to work at Crows Nest - had a flat at Mosman . Funny how our paths cross along the way. I have been playing with Bella Donna on some of the general threads and had best get off here and do something constructive. I'm steering clear of Daniel - he's only a little bit older than my daughter!! Me thinks all this attention will go to his head! Hope everyone has a great day. Anna Moving son into new house tomorrow - lease is signed so hopefully nothing else will go wrong! |

For just 4 X 50cent stamps each and self addressed envelope, I can get a copy of the certs. These are professional researchers and the certs are ones they have paid for along their research journeys that have not been the right ones. Hope theres some there for everyone . . . cheers luv Laurie |

Well...........you learn something new every day. lol!!! Manure: In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be transported by ship and it was also before commercial fertilizer's invention, so large shipments of manure were common. It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, it not only became heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a by product is methane gas. As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and did) happen. Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern, BOOOOM! Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined just what was happening. After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped with the term 'Ship High In Transit' on them, which meant for the sailors to stow it high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of methane. Thus evolved the term 'S.H.I.T ' , (Ship High In Transport) which has come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day. So peeps, next time you disposed to use the 'sh*t' word, you're not really swearing, merely using an old shipping acronym!!! |

Good morning Wattlers, from the shores of Botany Bay. Another lovely picture before me - a few strips of cloud with a golden glow from the rising sun behind. More pleasant this morning than it was last night, so hot, and here it is mid April! There was movement of ships in and out the Bay last night, but couldn't see what it was - just the lights. The morning reveals that we now have two Tankers over at Kernell, a Gas Tanker over at the Gas Wharves, and three giraffes are idle with their heads up. As I type a ship is steaming north outside the heads, not coming in - has another destination in mind. Its a very still morning, and there are about a dozen white cockatoos in the pines across the road, having a right old time of stripping the smaller branches. Lara, Wilsons mention of going to the cemetery reminds me . . Will Josh be able to give me directions to where he found my rellies ??? Devely Sue, glad you had a good break 'ova - er' . . . lol about the 'Windy Hill' experience . . . Thanks Mary, will be grateful for any inroad ! Well Lew & Rebs, I enjoy Melbourne too, and I wasn't born there - only lived there for about a year all up. I was born in Cobar, and I love to go back and stir up the memory bank . . . but I never want to live there again !!!!!! I got a GR pm last night from a new rellie !!!!! I got myself a new cuz - same relationship as my Joodles, only this time on my Mums side! I have suggested she drops in and joins in the chatter on here so if you see an unsual name you will know who it could be. Wait for it . . . . her name is Judy ! ! ! Hopefully the puter will be running hot today with the exchange of info and pics. Yes girls, there has been a busy Gen board overnight hasn't there - I think Poor Daniel has become a Boy Toy for the girls. Ray and I were talking this morning about some of the changes our parents would have gone thru in their lifetiimes - the technology changes etc. and then we got onto talking about communications and how much it has changed in our lives. . . . When we both joined the Navy in 1968, and became communicators, we learnt morse code, and I remember the instructor telling me about this new thing called fascimile (fax) but said we didn't have to know much about it because the RAN didn't have any . . . So glad to have my puter and mobile phone !!! Off to do a 'lick and a promise' - my motto on the boring h*******k is ' step over it ' Have a good day all cheers luv Laurie |

You know Lew, maybe we knew each other way back when if we both hung out in Carlton as under 5's. Did you ever play in the traffic education playground at the park in the Exhibition Gardens? |
