Morning everyone :-) Firstly I know I'm probably a bit late but Happy Anzacs Day :-) Lew I will gladly take you up on your offer when I sort a few things out (like my tree lol). Lizzy and Ella welcome but I feel I should warn you that if you want to keep your sanity I should say now........... RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PMSL.................. especially from that Rebs and Lew Lew hehe ;-ppp Lew Lew about the Mugadee meet, I would love to but I'm only just able to afford to go to stay with Jilly in Scotland for the weekend in August then I want to save and take the kids on holiday next year so unless I win the lottery it's not going to happen :-(((. Thanks for the offer though and maybe one day I''ll make it over there :-)))). Laurie I missed the Mary Bryant unfortunately but bet it was good.........ah well tv over has a habit of repeating things so I'll probably catch it some other time. Tony enjoy your holiday and if you go near Falkirk wave to Lemon, or Fife wave to Jilly lol Anna I'm doing an access to further education course which is GCSE level and consists of a bit of this and a bit of that lol. Mostly at the moment it's psychology and sociology plus an English GCSE. From September I wnt to do the access to higher education course where I'll concentrate on the humanities side of things ie history and classics which interests me more than the social sciences. Hair is still straight lol.........luckily enough it stays that way for a couple of days so I don't have to use straighteners everyday :-) Has anyone seen Trifley or is she still partying on her barge :-). Was wondering because I was watching the English version of Gladiators last night and one of the gladiators reminds me of her description of Nefer. Loved the descriptions about the farkles.......why is it I can see Rebs chasing them lol One day you'll all have to tell me the names of the football teams you support and their nicknames so I can keep up with you football talk lolol Well the suns gone awol around here. It rained sometime during the night so is still wet and dull around here :-( Hope all those going to Yarrawonga have a great time :-))))). *waves to all* Juliexx |

Hullo Lizzy Welcome to the wattle (waffle) thread! My Dad came here from Wales in 1925 when he was 18. He was from Penarth near Cardiff. I still have cousins living there and visited them in 2000. I want to go back again so I can visit the old mining towns where my Dad's family originally came from - Aberdare, Pontypridd, Merthyr Tydfil etc. The family came to Wales from Herefordshire - around Kington. What part of Wales are you from? Come back and talk to us again Cheers Anna |

Afternoon Wattlers, Hope you had a good morning, I caught up on the ironing while watching the march, missed seeing Laurie tho. Joodles yes i'm a bit sad can't go to Yarra, the lunch at casino sounds good when we can get there, just love those ( you know what's) lol I thought you were all mad at first talking about Farkles ect what a hoot. All the talk of Scotland brought to mind about the time I spent there as a 15/16 yr old as a nanny's maid, worked for the Wills tobacco people who had a holiday house in Fort William, anyway the cook who was young and single used to try and carry on with the Italian butler oh the shenagins I was only there a month, got homesick and went back to London. Going to read a book this arvo, a thriller I am trying to finish. Enjoy the rest of your day Sandra in the Gong PS for all who are heading off to Yarrawonga have a great time |

Lew lew & Mary - Strange you should mention Lanarkshire being Irish - coz I have some born in Lanarkshire, and further back, from Ireland. Tony - reason I asked you about the Uk (it was a typo by the way, I meant England lol) was that a netpal of mine in Nottingham who I was talking to this morning - said you are quite welcome to stay at her place freeeeeeeeeeeee. She's a widow and a ball of fun. Loves her nightly red wine tipple. I wasnt sure if you were just going up north this time. She said she'd show you around, although on some days she'd have commitments (bowls, usually). Jude 3 - you were clever to work out how many parts you were - one part scottish, 2 parts something else pmsl I know Im one part Canadian, but I wouldnt know how to divide up the English, Scottish and Irish ancestors !!! <I'm very proud of my one part Canadian ..... grin > Do you know our Sydney Anzac Parade lasted for 3½ hours. I missed Laurie though ..... :-(( Mary, I do wish thems would stop talking about Yarrawonga when they know it upsets us ,,,,,:-(( Never mind mate - we will all go to the Casino and gorge ourselves on - what was it Sandra? lol I may even miss out on the Qld one ............... sob! Lunchtime now - getting hungry Jood |

Lol, another good one Rebs! Mary, some of my 'Weir' family are from Lanark. And, unfortunately, my 'Reedy' lot are from Ireland, so I know how frustrating that is. Scots are so well organised! Thanks in advance, Tony. I told you the 'Watts' were doing my head in. What are you inferring, Jude TA? lol. Cheeky! Seeya Lew Lew xxx |

Sorry Mary.............. almost forgot the daily. :-(( The Urinal Is Too High A group of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, accompanied by two female teachers, went on a field trip to the local racetrack to learn about thoroughbred horses. When it was time to take the children to the bathroom it was decided the girls would go with one teacher and the boys would go with the other. The teacher assigned to the boys was waiting outside the men's room when one of the boys came out and told her that none of them could reach the urinal. Having no choice, she went inside, helped the boys with their pants, and began hoisting the little boys up one by one holding onto their 'wee wees' to direct the flow. As she lifted one, she couldn't help but notice that he was unusually well endowed. Trying not to show that she was staring, the teacher said, 'You must be in the 5th grade.' 'No, ma'am,' he replied. 'I'm the jockey riding Silver Arrow in the seventh. Cheers, love Rebs x |

Happy anzac day Wattlers, Well I went to bed too early last night and missed all the fun on here but I can agree with Tony about the midges. Especially around the Lochs, they are as big as dragonflys...lol I cant say that I've ever seen any threelegged creatures though but I have heard of them. And I love the highland cows, if you drive up through Ben Nevis the cows have the right of way and wander all over the place, if you stop the car and wind the window down they come over and stick their head in for a pat ...very cute but smelly. But then I love all things Scottish (well except the haggis) probably as I am 50% Scot, 40% Welsh & 10%Pom. Tony we phoned early in the morning to get into MaryKings Close and managed a 3pm booking. I would ring the day before to be safe. There were about 20 in each group and I think the tour lasted about 45 mins. The only dissapointment was not being allowed to take photos. Welcome to our visitors, hope you pop in again . Rebs and Lew Lew related?? now why doesn't that surprise me? lol Have a great day everyone Jude2 |

Welcome Lizzy and apologies now for all the rambling! Hey Rebs, my lot come from Perthshire too. Told you we're probably related! lol Quiet day at home for us. Bit of gardening, family research (gee, what a surprise!) nothing too strenuous and, of course, watching the match on the ABC. Lew Lew xxx |

Morning everyone!!! Welcome Lizzy. So you found us!! Did Lara babe give you bum directions? lololol!! Love ya Mumsie!! hehe Just looking at how many of us who have a wee drop of the Scot in them. I've got at least 50% of my tree from Perthshire, Aberdeen and Morayshire. I thought my English lot were mostly London/Middlesex but the Cheshire and Lancs lot are expanding at a rapid rate. Poor old Irish are the ones to suffer. Clare and Cork, possibly Dublin. But they are so hard to work on, so I've never got past the generations that came to Aus. Pity shipping records are so hard to find. Son has gone off to the Sandgate Anzac parade. He is marching with the Rover section of the scout group. He has marched since he was 8. It's great to see the community groups and schools so highly involved. This will be the first parade without Ted Smelt, who passed away last year age 103? Anyway, like Lauries parade, this is the first parade without the WW1 diggers being directly represented. Sad, but I guess no-one is immortal. Have a great day everyone, however you spend ANZAC day. Cheers, Rebs x |

Wow - you lot played up after I went to bed. So wot the ell are farkles then? Hey Ella, not only was I born in Perth, I know the suburb of Falcon very well (in Mandurah) - my sister had a holiday house there. Lovely place. And Tony dear - its FREMANTLE, not Freemantle (sorry, I had to do that). Hey - I have scottish rellies - from Auchinleck, Paisley, Partick, and Govan. Just watching the march on tv, the horse just went past without a rider, then a whole bunch of army guys carried the banners of WW1, as there are now no more left (quite emotional) Tony are you only going to Scotland this time and not the UK? Better go and have my brekky so I can watch Laurie march - Hi Laurie - just hold things till I get back ok? Lest we forget .............. Jood |
