Good Morning Wafflers and a Happy Wednesday to you (65 sleeps and counting - ah R Day) Thank you Laurie for that wonderful description. I felt like I was there. I always watch the march in telly and every year have seen my friend John who was at Nam with the mechanics. I'm glad you had a lovely day. All the armed services deserve it! That'll teach you to take time off the thread, Trifley. I hate when that happens, takes me forever to catch up with the chatter. Pleased to hear you got your shed up anyway. And if you need a hand with any of Nefer's brothers, just let me know and I'll sacrifice myself, lol. Tony, thanks again, mate, for your help with them 'Watts'. Think I'll just leave that line alone for now and hope that someone else sorts it out, lol. Our family also has a book called 'From Blarney to Blue Gums' all about the Reedy family. It was published in 1996 and begins with Michael Reedy who was born in Rathkeale, Limerick around 1806. It really is a wonderful book and is full of old family photos. Invaluable! HI again Lizzy. My sister and her family live in Adelaide and her eldest daughter and hubby are currently looking at buying a block of land and building a house in Lobethal. It's famous for its Christmas lights. Tour buses go up there at Christmas just to look at all the displays. Well better get me act together and go to the office (9 Fridays!) *waves to everybody, Jood, Jude1, Jude TA, Lara, Vonny, Ellie, Sandra, Cilla, SuzyQ, Tassie, Heather, Rebs, Shazz (oh god help me, who have I left out!), ummm, etc, etc. * Lew Lew xxx

Evening everyone. Well, it turned out to be a great day all round, by the sounds of it. A perfect sunny day in Melb for our ANZAC's and then to top it off a great game of traditional footy between the Bombers and the Magpies, as 90 thousand plus people sat and watched the game. My Mum, Brother...kids and grandkids came round, and we lit the B.B.Q and chatted. My dad died when i was 12 years old, and i never really knew him much at all, and Mum opened up her memory and started to talk about his time in the R.A.A.F (WW2)...and reminisced for ages. I have a special Album that i keep, with all the Photo's and War memorabilia in it along with his service records and medals. My brother, who was only 5 years old when he died ( 1960 ) never remembered our dad, and he realise on me to talk about him. So we got his War album out and had a few snag's and beers in his honour. My mum was fiddling in her handbag and pulled out a recent Newspaper ( Sunday Herald Sun, April 16th 2006 page 26 ) and there was a Photo of our Dads R.A.A.F Sqd.......451 and a plea from a lady ( Julie )looking for to be in touch with folk....and a Phone number at the bottom, so will give her a ring and have a chat. Joodle. Thanks for the offer about the free accommodation mate, much appreciated.....but we are already booked, and also have had offers from 2nd and 3rd cousins in England if we wanted a free nights stay....but declined. But thanks anyway....:>)) Laurie. I love reading your threads mate, and like the others say, you tell it so well, you can feel the emotion that comes from your typing...and puts people right in the picture. I had another break through with some more prospective ancestors last night while chatting on MSN with Deb in W.A ......and there was a book i had discovered about 18 years ago in the Melbourne City Library about some pioneers in a small town called 'Pomonal'. Its near the Grampian's in Vic.and i had found some piccies, and Pioneer stories about some Hull Families living there in the 1800s and always wondered if they might be related?......but never followered up on it, as my own grandad Hull didn't arrive in Oz till 1900....I did try to buy this book out of interest, but found it was out of circulation...... so dismissed it ( a cardinal sin.....) Anyway, Deb was telling me about some History of her family from a book she had found in a Library in W.A with Photo's in it......and sparked my memory. We 'googled' for the book on Pomonal ( on the off chance ) and it came up in Stawell Vic.$15.00... and listed the people who lived there, ( pioneers ) and there were the 'Hull's'......but reading further down the page...i noticed another Family 'Williamson' ???.( Jaw drops open )... My Essex Family in England are Hull and Williamson...( My Grandads Parents and Cousins )and they have been know to have have married many times into 3rd and 4th cousins since late 1700s. The funny thing about this is both Hull and Williamson ( in the Pioneer Pomonal Photo book ) are on the same pages.......:>)))))).......sooooooooo guess who going to spend $15.00 at Stawell very shortly. Have a great day to-morrow everyone. Tony Oz...:>))

5 PAGES.....omg....this is what happens when I get busy for a couple of days. To all our Wattlers who have passed on while protecting our way of life......loving thoughts keep you within our hearts. To us you will never really be gone, just on the other side waiting for us. To my special Uncle Frank, who was taken from us by a land mine in 1943, this is your day too..........I'll see ya! Evening Wafflers.......nice to see you're all happy & healthy. Jude 2............a big <<<hug>>> to your daughter, tell her I'm thinking of her. Mark went through something similar 2 years ago. He was going out with a lovely girl, whom I would have loved as a daughter, for 18 months. She dumped him by sms text. Charming! Hi Cilla.......glad to hear your eye op went well. You should now be able to see through some of the larks we pull on this thread lol. Anna........how are all your bumps, scratches, splinters etc? It's a dangerous thing cleaning a house isn't it? Did your daughter find somewhere comfy to sleep? I bet she doesn't forget her sleeping bag next time lol. Have fun at the clasic car meet. You must be very proud that this event is helping so many people. Tony...........will you PLEASE stop talking about food! Every time you mention something I get hungry. Aaahhh chockie doughnuts yum! Gotta get my niece-in law to bring some Krispy Kreems back from Sydney next time she goes. Ella Rose and Lizzy.....welcome. Don't believe everything they tell you on this thread..........the parties on the Royal Barge are quite refined. It's not my fault our pommie friends want to drink, eat, have massages and oigle(sp) men. The last party started out as a quiet little affair but it ended up I had to invent 6 brothers for Nefer. Now I have 7 Nubian man servants and I don't know what to do with them..........( sighs with a small smile on face). Hi Mary.......Pookaka.......sounds exotic. Do I need one? Do you wanna swap one for a brother? Aaahh.......The pipes, the pipes are calling............Laurie............there is nothing more stirring than a pipe band. I love the pipes. The march must have been wonderful to see. And, as usual, you have managed to describe it in such a way that I could almost think I was there. Thanks. The shed..............it's finished....yaaayyy! Mark & I did a bit of prep work yesterday and he & Graeme got to it early this morning. After I finished the washing I took over from Mark at lunch time when he went to golf and I carried on after Graeme went to work at 3pm. I finished all the fiddly bits........clips, screws, shelves, door knob and (of course!) as is the job of the labourer................cleaned up afterwards. Tools, extension lead, drill, ladder, tressle, broom and all the cardboard, styro-foam, tape, plastic bags and sundry other rubbish. Then a quick shower, the ironing and collapsed on the lounge with a small sherry. Just a usual sort of day. I think I might have a early night tonight and try to read some more of my book. To all my wonderful cyber friends.....Rebs, Joodles, Lara, Jude3, Vonny (I know, she's away!), SuzyQ, Donna and...another CRAFT moment, sorry to all those I forgot,.......a big ~~~~wave from me sitting here on the Royal Barge. Big Hugs & love Trifley

Laurie I saw the tribute to the diggers, but I didnt realise that was your corps behind them, I thought all the WW2's came through first, and of course I had no idea who Ray was marching with ............... awww ..... sorry - I ended up watching all 3 almost 4 hours of the march !!! If I'd known what I know now, I would have watched the news with particular interest. I got emotional again tonight on the news ........... I'm sooooo proud to be an aussie. ..... So proud of the men who lost their lives for their country. I also watched the gallipoli ceremony and the Kokoda Trail ceremony.. It is sooo nice that the younger generation are coming to appreciate what the fellows did for us. Well thats all from me tonight Jood

Well its Anzac Day 2006 in Sydney, the lovely Ray crept out and left me asleep for the dawn service, I didn't surface until he got back at about 6.50am. We had a quick breakkie and headed into the city. I think I should give up going in Anzac Day marches, I'm a 'blubberer' - but then I used to be like when the band was playing at normal weekly parades way back when - so nothings changed! But I am a proud Aussie, and I carry tissues! How incredible it is to march, with all those people waving, cheering you on . . I used to think I had no place there, but a letter in the Navy newspaper a few years ago changed my perspective . . . and it is great to catch up with old friends that I only see once a year (even our old ma'am dragon) . . . . So many thank you signs, The entertainers were a highlight, specially Smokey Dawson, God love him . . . Dick Smith standing there on the corner near the Queen Victoria Building with a big Thank You sign - and he points to everyone individually - though I'm guessing his fingers would have been sore by the end of the march. We (being the superior service . . . NAVY) were at the front of the march, behind the tribute to the missing WW1 diggers, it started to rain as we approached Town Hall, but nothing too heavy - was all gone by the time we got to Hyde Park. I marched with the WRANS and Ray marched with HMAS Perth - two units behind us. The march started at 9am, and finished just short of 1pm - being in the early crowd to go through, we were able to then stand with the other grateful and cheer those behind us. It was very emotional, as I kept thinking about my uncles that didn't return from WW11, about my grandma Kate, and the pain she must have gone through, and about my Dad who never missed an Anzac Day march. I think today, I finally got it - I know why it was so important to him, I know why he was so involved in starting up the RSL club in Cobar - I am ashamed that I never commiserated with him that he lost 2 brothers and a b-i-l - especially think looseing his baby brother would have been so painful - Uncle Geoff, who was a navigator in a Lancaster shot down over Germany, he was only 20yrs old - twelve years younger than Dad. While we were standing watching the march go past, we saw a special young man - friend of Oni's son from out at West Wyalong, he is on HMAS Kanimbla, so we yelled and waved at him, - and it is special - because my Dad was in a special Army unit attatched to the Navy and he spent a lot of time on the old Kanimbla - he was up in the crows nest when it was torpedoed, he fell crashing through the deck, received injuries that stayed with him the rest of his life. The bands were fantastic, and they do such a mighty job, most go around three or four times. The Scots have a wonderful tradition - after the march they all march back to Martin Place and have their own wreath layer ceromony, its amazing, about 200 bagpipes, and the same number of drummers. We have a dear old friend heavily involved - he was a flag bearer today so we stayed behind to watch and enjoy that. We then went for social afternoon at the Brighton RSL, and have only just returned, and no Mary, I was only drinking lemon, lime & bitters ! So ends another Anzac Day, 'May those who are left to grow old, have our gratitude and the peace that we wish for those who are resting' . . . . luv Laurie
