Morning Wattlers,Mothers, Grandmothers, Step-Mothers. Happy Mothers Day.....:>)) Off to visit my Mum today, and then up to my eldest girls home for Tea to-night. On Mothers Day, my girls get to-gether at one of their homes and make Casserols and cakes and stuff. They look upon Barb as a kinda Step Mum, and buy her flowers and small gifts, just to say thanks for her help and advice during the year. Why are you crying, a young boy asked his Mom? 'Because I'm a woman,' she told him. 'I don't understand,' he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, 'And you never will, but that's O.K.'....... Later the little boy asked his father, 'Why does Mom seem to cry for no reason?'. 'All women cry for no reason,' was all his Dad could say...... The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry. Finally he put in a call to God and when God got back to him, he asked 'God, why do women cry so easily?' GOD answered...... 'When I made woman, I decided she had to be special. I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet, made her arms gentle enough to give comfort... I gave her the inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times will come even from her own children. I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going and take care of her family and friends, even when everyone else gives up, through sickness and fatigue without complaining.... I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances. Even when her child has hurt her badly.... She has the very special power to make a child's boo-boo feel better and to quell a teenager's anxieties and fears.... I gave her strength to care for her husband, despite faults and I fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.... I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly.... For all of this hard work, I also gave her a tear to shed. It is hers to use whenever needed and ! it is her only weakness.... When you see her cry, tell her how much you love her, and all she does for everyone, and even though she may still cry, you will have made her heart feel good. Av a good un. Tony Oz....:>)) |

Morning everyone Thanks to all for the Mother's Day wishes - may I add my good wishes to you all. I had chocolate for breakfast - how decadent! Loved the thoughts on being a mother Heather - how very true. Have a good day everyone XX Anna PS How tragic is your story about the 3 pities Trifley. I think we have all discovered some heart wrenching stories in our family histories, and your stories, so eloquently expressed, have prompted us all to stop and reflect on the sadness and sacrifices that have touched the lives of our ancestors. Remembering all the mothers throughout history who have had to bury their new born babies, their toddlers - any of their children - in a world that was so much more difficult than the privileged world in which you and I live today. |

Enjoy the Day Mum's ! I'm going back to bed with my hot crumpet (lol), suitable quinced, and a nice cup of Earl Grey ( wish it was YOUR breaky Shaz, my cupboards didn't quite have the necessary ingredients!!). Trifley, your 'pities' post is very touching, it's the little stories that are so enriching in genealogy. God Bless all Mothers: Somebody said it takes about six weeks to get back to normal after you've had a baby .......... Somebody doesn't know that once you're a mother, 'Normal,' is history. Somebody said you learn how to be a mother by instinct .. Somebody never took a three-year-old shopping. Somebody said being a mother is boring ...... Somebody never rode in a car driven by a teenager with a driver's permit. Somebody said if you're a 'good' mother, your child will 'turn out good.' Somebody thinks a child comes with directions and a guarantee. Somebody said 'good' mothers never raise their voices ..... Somebody never came out the back door just in time to see her child hit a golf ball through the neighbor's kitchen window. Somebody said you don't need an education to be a mother. Somebody never helped a fourth grader with her math. Somebody said you can't love the fifth child as much as you love the first. Somebody doesn't have five children. Somebody said a mother can find all the answers to her child-rearing questions in the books ....... Somebody never had a child stuff beans up his nose or in his ears. Somebody said the hardest part of being a mother is labor and delivery ..... Somebody never watched her 'baby' get on the bus for the first day of kindergarten. Somebody said a mother can do her job with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back...... Somebody never organized four giggling Brownies to sell cookies. Somebody said a mother can stop worrying after her child gets married ... Somebody doesn't know that marriage adds a new son or daughter-in-law to a mother's heartstrings. Somebody said a mother's job is done when her last child leaves home... Somebody never had grandchildren. Somebody said your mother knows you love her, so you don't need to tell her...... Somebody isn't a mother. Have a WONDERFUL day all, Heather |

Fascinating thread Trifley - and so true. We had no idea that John's dad had two other brothers till I started this - one probably a still birth and NEVER mentioned and another who died aged 18 whom he also had no idea about. Still trying to finish the 1000 piece puzzle tonight cos I want the table cleared tomorrow. LOL Night all~~~~~~~~~~ Vonny |

Hi Joodles......thanks for the numbers. I'll check them now to see if we're any richer. I think Shaz was refering to my thread........'A tale of three pities' I got in quite a contemplative mood after I received the info Lew Lew sent about Graeme's aunty. So I set about penning a few lines about her and 2 of my uncles. My uncle Frank was the reason I got started on my tree. ~~~~waves from me on the Barge Trifley |
