Think the punishment is a tad OTT< but then again if they knew the rules and knowingly flaunted them. Well then they got their just desserts. We as a country do tend to be too soft. And the death of the barman wasn't by girls..... it was three lads and a girl.

well done Rupert and the rest of you , we are a nation of softies and its gone to far. time to stand up and be counted. We are a laughing stock of the rest of the world no other Country would put up with what we do from our youngsters or our visitors. any one like to try going to another Country and burning there flags in there Streets oops got carried away a bit there

This is the 21st century ! Flogging ?? 10 years jail ? For what ? Humiliating a woman, jeering ? Giving out their telephone numbers ? In Saudi if a woman as much as speaks to a man she is flogged or even in some past cases put to death. I know Britain is soft but I hope that it never adopts the barbaric nature of Saudi, who seem to be behind by about 200 years..... Elaine x

CB So you think corporal punishment is barbaric.? Do we not live in barbaric times? Is it not barbaric to mug and beat to death members of the public. Happy slapping has caused death on a number of occassions and the reult by the law? Either manslaughter or accidental death. What is accidental when gangs go on the rampage and maim people. This situation is a direct result of no respect and for all the good , the liberal minded have done in abandoning corporal punishment where this is justified,they should have kept their ideas to themselves. Unfortunately most people who advocate such lenient measures ,and this includes those morons in government,and who have never had a taste of these individuals and gangs ,will soon change their tune when they are hurt or frightened to venture out because of such trouble. Bring back justice and punishment that fits the crime. Bring back coporal punishment before it is too late to turn the tide against this criminal society. Rupert (with no apologies for my views.)

in my opinion. not all who do this for fun are bad youngsters,most are just following suit. i don`t think washing brickwalls etc would deter anyone. by putting a severe punishment,would at least deter those that follow. in the 70`s i was punched in the back by my headmaster for not standing still in line in the playground. most people would say that was barbaric for todays standards,but i did`nt do it again,and i have no quibble for him doing it. infact i respect now what he did,not at the time mind you. i don`t think a shouting at or tapped hand would have done the trick. derek

It's ridiculously disproportionate punishment. Gloryer - 'An eye for an eye' etc is just a quotation from the Bible - there are millions of them and half of them contradict the other half:) Even if that was used it would mean that the gang received the same treatment they gave.

I agree with these agressive morons being punished, and I suppose, given strict Islamic law, that 10 years in jail isn't surprising, but 600 lashes? That is barbaric and has no place in modern times, even if the punishment is given over the 10 years, and not all at once (which would kill the person). I don't agree with criminals receiving corporal punishment for more minor offences, but I do agree with the death penalty for murder when there is absolute proof of guilt. As for 'Happy Slapping', it's just another product of a selfish society, in which too many children grow up without being shown how or taught to respect their fellow humans and probably don't even give a second thought to the welfare or feelings of others. It's all ME, ME, ME and aren't 'I' wonderful, but the only way in which these moronic 'slappers' can make themselves look what they think is 'good' or 'clever' is by humiliating other people. for some people to say its a turn on to watch others beaten and humiliated proves that caning and the slipper were good deterents and a not too severe punishment for out generation...without a punishment that fits the crime how do we expect to control the young 'gangsters',,its obvious the parents and teachers cant..if i found any of my family commiting crimes of violence i would get 25 years for murdering my own

Yes I think we could do with some of those punishments here in the U.K. Maybe some of those cocky yobs in hoodies wouldn't be so 'hard' if they got a few lashes across their backs and it might deter the younger ones from following in their footsteps.

here here I totally agree with that sort of punishment. My lad witnessed this going on in his school so i phoned the school and reported it. dont know if anything got done about it a I did not give my sons name in case of reprissals Gloria

A gang of youths in Saudi Arabia, molested a group of women dressed the traditional Muslim costume. One of the women was repeatedly prodded, humiliated rather than severely assaulted, whilst other members of the gang jeered and photographed the affair on mobile phones Last week, 10 men aged between 17 and 26 were convicted of assault and other minor offences including speaking to the women and giving out their telephone numbers. They were given jail sentence and ordered to be flogged. The leader of the gang got 10 years and 600 lashes. len
