It is about a metre long and silvery grey..could not see any markings, but I was running in the opposite direction at the time! Any ideas all you Aussies, of what type it may be and what I should do!?? LOL!! Apart from becoming a hostage in my own home! Thanks, Sal in Sydney

I was putting the washing out and didn't realise that I had company.....although a couple of days ago there was part remains of a dead frog from my pond so i suppose that is what it is after....

It wiggled away under a load of native orchids .... it is dark now but now I understand why my dog was barking like crazy the night before last over there....must have cornered it! I will phone the wildlife people in the morning and see what they say....maybe they will come and find it.

You lucky lucky things. I have had an adder in my garden more than once, (very innocuous by Australian snake standards!) and it goes down as the highlights of my life, especially as I live in Souh London and not in the country. Snakes are amazing, beautiful creatures. Bev x

What was it Sal, we have brown snakes - one of them bit Mr Darcy the burmese early last December Lucky I realised what was wrong with him and got him to the vet I am told just in time JA

I'm not sure, but from my investigations! lol! think it may be a Hemiaspis Damelii!!!!! Unless there are other grey ones with the same description.... He has gone underground now - can't find him as he is in hiding but I am on the look out.... Sal

Sal The chances of it being a problem are remote...but in saying that always be aware..................I never walk bare foot in my yard and remember we are in drought............snakes will come looking for water...............you back on bush .........before you grab the hose make sure the snake is not coiled around it.............not uncommon even in the suberbs.....I had it in the Blue Mountains,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Haze

Sal in Sydney Report 25 Feb 2006 07:12

Thanks Haze......the kids (Tilly, Immy and Joe saw it last weekend, but I thought they were kidding and that they'd seen a Blue Tongue) until I was being spied on by the washing line!!! He was quite sweet actually, rather pretty....but more scared of me than I of him luckily!!!!! Will be on the look out in future...... S

It sounds like a grey. Looking at browns they say they go from tan to drk brown, with bands when juvenile I can well imagine you moving fast on meeting a metre long snake - they say they are mildly venomous - but would not fancy trying that out lol Take care JA

Thanks JA.....from what I read it gives a nasty bite but not too dangerous....will take a look out later with Paul as apparently they come out at dusk.
