Jenny, You'll be fine. Flying is the safest way to travel. You could try something like Kalms, thay may be designged to help you sleep and to help with stress but they are great for helpping to keep you calm. Try takeing a book to read or something to do - knit, saw, draw - basically anything to keep you occupied, it's only a short hop so you will only be on the plane a short time. After this trip, the worlds your oyster! (((xxx))) LT |

Thank you all for your encouraging replies. I have been to Dublin twice before in the 80's, but by Ferry and had three small children with me. It will be great to go and let my hair down with my eldest Daughter nearly 30 yrs, who I dont see very often. I am now 95% certain I am going to go. This had come completly out of the blue, I only have a couple of weeks to worry myself sick. Thank you all, Jenny xxx |

I know how frightened you are.I am flying up to scotland last week in march and am not looking forward to it.I fly over to my daughters villa in Lanzarote 3 times a year and i am so terrified but i do it.I also done check in at the airport and you would be amazed at just how many people are terrified and we would board them first and hand them over to cabin crew.Go on go and have a nice time and i have been to Dublin and you will enjoy it. I don't think the flight will be that long. It says it takes an hour but it probably will be shorter than that. Dublin is a fantastic city. I think you will enjoy it. I feel safer in a plane than in a car. As someone has suggested take some travel sickness pills, however, I find that some make me drowsy and I sleep through the flight. You may prefer that option. A couple of years ago I went on a hen weekend to Paris. One of the bridesmaid's mums came with us (Mother of the groom) She had never flown before and loved it, Have a lovely time in Dublin. |

Jenny, talk to the cabin crew. A girl I went on holiday with was terrified of flying (not too keen myself) and she told the cabin crew how nervous she was 9well she was crying with nerves as she boarded) and they were really good. They allowed her to go and see the pilot in the cockpi and ask him any questions, and showed her the failsafe instruments etc and really looked after her. I am sure all airline crew know just how to deal with nervous passengers. I'd give it a go. It is only a short flight, and you will have a wonderful trip! Claire xx |

It will be from Newcastle to Dublin. I really know I should take this pressie. Me and Vanessa will have a great time together. I cannot wait to fly. It is just a matter of being frightend of crashing. I am getting the same when going down the motorway to see my Daughters and Grandchildren in the Midlands. I really do feel the need of a stiff drink or medication even then. Put me on a train and I am fine. I am sure once I have flown for the first time I will be fine. It will open up a whole new world for me. Hubby really wants us to travel abroard a couple of times a year. We have friends who have invited us to Portugal for a free weeks holiday, all we have to find is our flight fare. Friends begging us to go and spend two weeks with them in Turkey. I am just petrified of flying for the first time. But I must add, your replies are really helping me. Thanks Jenny xx |

Another suggestion: My husband dreaded flying, but agree to go. When we were told to board the plane, I pushed him all the way up the stairs. We sat on the plane, then told to get off as someone was missing. We collected our luggage, put it back on another belt. I had no trouble getting him back on the plane he was fuming. Just thought I'd tell you. We have been flying for years now. |

Hi, Firstly dont't panic! Go to Boots chemist and buy some Stugeron ( it's a non drowsey travel sickness tablet) if you are on meds, ask first about taking them. They will calm you as well, I get very very nervous flying ( family in New Zealand!), I wouldn't leave home without them, fantastic tab! Lastly enjoy! Ireland is beautiful! Lisa |

Just close your eyes as you get on the plane. Don't look down, and think you are on a bus. |

As a lot of you know I have never flown and absolutley petrified of doing so. Eldest Daughter wants to take me to Ireland for my pressie. Just a short break but staying in a nice hotel again and being pampered. We did the same last year but in this Country. The dates are perfect as Hubby is on a weeks holiday the last week in March. I would love to go, but have to give her my answer tonight. How on earth do I overcome how frightened I would be. My biggest worry is letting her down just as I am about to board. Advise please. Jenny. xx |
