Thanks for the link Brian - I will definitely go and have a look. I have suffered from IBS for over 10 years, but always had problems with constipation as a child. Thankfully I have got it pretty much under control now, but about 5 years back I was really suffering. My Doctor wasn't interested and more or less told me it was all in my mind and that food made no difference to it whatsoever! I got a really good book called 'Food your miracle medicine' which was full of loads of good advice - that was the real turning point for me. Of course it's always bad when I'm stressed - or just after stressful times usually. I think the most common food culprits are wheat and dairy - I started off by cutting out breakfast which did help loads, but now I'm careful about what cereal I eat and I have Soya Milk - this is a recent thing and it's still a novelty being able to have breakfast. lol There seems to be a lot more awareness of this condition now which is a good thing - hopefully more people will be helped now. I have suffered for over 10 years. Mine is stress and anxiety related. It is particulaly bad at the moment. Have had antispasmodics but they don't work. I just get on with it as best I can. I will certainly take a look at this site. Viv

I thought that I was suffering with this complaint. I gave up white bread and I don't get any bloatedness any more. Diet has a lot to do with it.

Hadn't realised onions were such a trigger - we tend to add them to everything, don't we. One of the girls worked with us has this and has suffered ( as did the rest of us cos she does NOT do suffering well! ) for years and only now has she started really being careful with what she eats. She has Lupus as well - can't stand heat at all and she was a chef!

Hello Christine, not something people talk about...The family are used to it....but I find it difficult when asked out to friends houses for a meal....One had French Onion Soup for starters.....

Me , too, seems to be triggered by food and stress......Onions are killers, can't eat them in any shape or form, so scan packets of food....Also don't like eating out...Is this a modern thing or has it been around for years.?

I was diagnosed some time ago with IBS and have been getting fed up with the bloated stomach especially which made me look hugely pregnant. Last week I bought some Act***l drinks that were reduced, and took one every day and I definitely feel 'lighter' and my tummy isn't so big. Will buy some more tomorrow and see if they still help, and will try and note the absence (hopefully) of any other symptons. Liz

I have recently realised certain foods make mine a lot worse, trouble is it is hard to pinpoint which ones. I know Broccolli is one and of course its my favourite next to Cauliflower.Definitely Wheat my Stomache swells so much looks like I am about 6 months pregnant. I have tried the anti spasmodics but none work I find ordinary peppermints are best for me, good luck to anyone who suffers with this not many people understand the discomfort you get , sometimes I get hardly any sleep for the spasms.

Sharon, Could well be that your backache is IBS related. This wretched complaint comes in many guises. I don't think it is a hereditary problem, as such, but it can affect other members of ones family, of course. Get your GP's diagnosis on it. According to reports in the journal of the IBS Network (Gut Reaction it's called), few GP's know much about IBS. Once all other possibly serious conditions have been eliminated many take the view that as it's not 'life-threatening' it doesn't warrant too much more of his/her time, and you have to get on with it as best you can. Thanks Brian, Will def. take a look. I've had it for a few years, and reading through the responses have just realised that my backache could be due to that! My Mum also has it very badly - doesn't look good for my kids, does it? Sharonxx

hi im gonna take a look at site, ive suffered for over 4 years now, now got to point were we dont go out for meals or rather cant as ive also devolped food allergies which kick it off big time, so if i dont eat mushroom, wheat, broccoli, caffeine, aspartme, ornages, strawberries, etc then im alright, but its not worth the hassle asking for breakdown of menu in restaurnats etc, im sure other people know what i mean my sympathy to anyone else suffering, especially little children, its such a debilitating disease, people who dont have it just dont realise the severity it can have <<<steps down off soap box now lol nicky
