Penny do you hire him out ........... my washer stopped spinning this week. Last one did the same and shop said the cost of repairing it was too high to bother so had to buy another .............. now if he could get mine spinning for £36 I would be over the moon. I did manage to get a new fridge freezer last year ........... the old one was 23 years old .............. :-))))))))))))))))))))))) |

12 years Penny! Its nearly new!! Mine is 17 years old and has had new bushes or brushes put in by OH several times just as I thought I might have a new (silver - I wish!) one. Not only that but in an attempt to get at an inaccessible part of the motor,OH cut a 4 inch square hole in the side of the machinfeso he could get his hand in to work, now how many other people have a hole in the side of their washing machine? start cutting little holes in his clothes that look like the machines eating them (bit like moth holes) don't say a thing until he mentions it and then gasp in shock and say 'I thought the machine had been chewing stuff but I didn't like to say because it probably means getting a new one' walk away muttering about being off to check the entire wardrobe |

I find a major hissy fit usually works. I have them so rarely that there is agreement in a matter of minutes. Our first washing machine set itself on fire and I had to get the fire brigade out on Christmas Eve, I phoned OH at work to tell him my life was in danger and they were on their way. He arrived home some time later as the firemen were drinking coffee and surveying the mess that was my kitchen. OH thanked them and paused to look at the ruins of the washing machine on the drive before heading back to work and the office party before I could catch him. I left the mess for him to clear up when he got home and brooded on how long a sentence I'd get if I killed him. We exchanged a 'few words' later but the kitchen was clean, if minus a washing machine, for Christmas Day. As soon as the shops opened after Christmas we went to town and ordered a new one. I also bought many clothes in compensation for those that were in the washing machine when it spontaneously combusted. Gwynne |

I know just how you feel, my hubby is the same. The sofas we bought cheap we still had after 18 years - our bums virtually touched the floor they were so knackered. One day I just took the boys out to a clearance sale at Multiyorks warehouse (we live near) - chose two sofas - totalling £1200 (instead of £3500), signed up for nil interest deal and had them delivered. He didnt talk to me for a week and I had to pull the old sofas out myself. A week later and he LOVED them. Im actually thinking about getting some new ones now (after 12 years, 2 boys and 4 dogs) as the covers cost £1000 to renew and the big clearance sale is on at Easter. The frames are still perfect, so I may put them in other rooms with throws over them. But its the same with everything - the washing machine was stuck and glued and leaked and didnt spin. In the end I did the same thing and just went out and bought one and had it delivered. The poor delivery bloke must have felt uncomfortable when hubby went out in a huff when it arrived but tough, I wasnt prepared to carry on with it - it took a lot of energy to keep repairing and the washing was never clean and never dry. Go out and buy one girl and take the flak for a week. |
