I put Laurel and Hardy in the garage every night. They have a choice of beds, lots of toys, plenty of food and water and 2 litter trays, and it is a double garage so there is plenty of room for them to play. I can't help feeling a bit mean though when I lock the door on them every night. Last night I thought I would leave them out as they were settled on the spare room bed, but no one got any sleep till 3.30 when I gave up and locked them away again. I have been up ever since as I am wide awake now. What do others do? Liz

Good morning James, I don't like the thought of them being out all night though. I make sure they are in at dusk and then lock the catflap. Liz

After what i came down to this morning,,she is going out tonight, Poo on my one of my long curtains,,,,she poo'd on the other one yesterday, I didnt see it and i hoovered the floor and ended up spreading poo all over,,what a nightmare,,

I've got 4, BB, she is 18 years old and just sleeps all night, stockings is out all night, but the kittens Gizzy and pud have a bed in the kitchen, the mess can easily be cleaned up.

Hi Liz My last two cats went out and inn the catflap as they pleased,but I did keep the kitchen door shut. I hated it when a car came speeding down the road or I heard cats fight outside. Often I would be out during the night getting my cat in again. The one I have now is a house cat, I had great plans to let her out this summer and make sure she was in at night. but the bird flu scare..has scared me lol. so she will be in the kitchen during the night. she does come up to the bedroom for a while but I would get no sleep if I let her wonder about. Putting mine out for the toilet before bed is proving pointless at the moment,, She usually goes out and then comes in for cat crunchies on her favourite cushion in the kitchen,

Until spring and summer,our two cats have a basket and a blanket in the kitchen. The kitchen door is closed at night so they can't get any further into the house. They get in and out of the cat flap as they please. When the warmer weather arrives they are re-located into the garage and are not allowed into the house overnight or beyond the kitchen during the day. Despite everything we have tried,one of my cats is a master hunter and I just cannot cope with the massacre we would find in the kitchen. Some mornings when we have come downstairs into the kitchen it has looked like a major crime scene. 'Presents' brough for us include, birds, fish, mice, frogs, large moths, and even a bat once. My three used to do what they liked as I had a cat flap. Then we got a new door and haven't got round to putting a flap back in it. My cats were becoming a nuisance at night thundering around playing and making the dogs bark, so now if the weather is not too awful, I put them out just before I go to bed. On really cold nights I let them out an hour before I go to bed, then let them back in again.

My 4 come and go as they please - but I do like to make sure they are all around a) before I go to bed b) in morning before I go to work and c) when I get home from work ......... Mind you I do often get up to be greeted by something small, furry and lifeless, which they have finished playing with ................

Thank you all for your replies. I think my two will be relegated to the garage tonight, and every night. Hubby is in a foul mood as he has an important meeting this am, and son is really tired too. Maybe in the winter I will move their stuff into the conservatory, as it does get very cold in the garage. I really don't want to let them out though, from a safety point of view, as well as the fact I don't want any furry presents. Thyey go out a lot in the daytime, so they get plenty of fresh air and exercise. Liz

My three cats come and go as they please. Like Anne I do a head count in the morning, when I get in from work and before I go to bed but to be fair at night they are all usually asleep in the lounge! LOL If you say bedtime Tess jumps off her chair and runs up the stairs, flops down on the landing exposes her belly and waits for us to tickle her before we go to bed!!!!!!! Julie xxx

Our Cats are brought in at night. We don't let them out when it's dark. At work we always tell people to keep them indoors at night too.

All the cat owners where we live put their beloved cats out at night. We know because we have to pick up their 'calling cards' the next day!! if some owners can bring their cats in why can't others? i think it's cruel to leave them out in all weathers. You wouldn't leave your dog out would you? Rant over. Mau x ;0(

I have 4 cats, they have their own door, so come and go as they like, the living room is connected to kitchen so we shut living room door at night to keep them all in there, wouldnt get any sleep otherwise. get up at 6.00 to feed them then they get free access to the rest of the house. jean

My 4 have the run of downstairs and the landing upstairs. They have a cat flap and a litter tray just-in-case! They are all rescue cats and one, Pyewacket, goes beserk if he can't get out. But Lily refuses to go out at all at night after a close encounter with an owl. My cats certainly aren't allowed in the bedroom after Lily sneezed right in my face, Pye brought me a live mouse at 3 am and Jimbo was sick and I trod in it.....all on thesame night!! Julie R

My cat is in and out all day, i live next to a dene so there's no danger of her getting hit by a car. I dont let her out once its dark and she tends to sleep at night so its not a problem. I think i would fret all night if she was outdoors lol.

Our cat who's ten stays in, she's shut downstairs. She doesn't like the back door shut when she goes out also she has a tendency to fight other cats so if shes in we get a much better night sleep!

Oh I wouldn't be able to sleep if Clicquot was out at night!! I've learnt to sleep thru her running around. Before daddy died bedroom doors would be shut and we'd see her in the morning.... now she won't allow doors to be shut, she'll miaow and miaow until you open it.... madam doesn't want to come in just doesn't like the door shut!! She never uses anything but her litter tray, day or night..... she can be out for hours during the day but will still come home to do her business!! :O) xx
