Nooo Sue. Am against it. What would you say to people like the families of Angela Canning and Sally Clark who were both convicted of killing their children and then freed on appeal when the medical evidence was proved to be unsound? Um sorry, I know she's dead but we do appreciate she's innocent now. But I don't believe in it anyway - don't think any of us are fit to judge whether or not someone should live or die and I believe in punishment and rehabilitation.

We definately need something in this country I beleive in an eye for an eye and if anyone touched my kids I can't say on here what I would do to them, I'll leave that to your imagination. It's time this country woke up and realised that if the punishments were stronger it would make a difference to the country we live in.And anyone who kills or abuses children should be handed over to the public. It makes me so ANGRY. Most of those released from prison and over-compensated are released on a technicality, not because they are innocent, as a Judge (Lord Denning) pointed out. Len

Sue. I agree that it will stop them from commiting another crime but to execute an innocent person is really just the same as murder. A sentence of 200 years imprisonment in case where there might be some doubt would suffice. Brian (i)

Hi Brian , i think it is the only way they can guarantee they will never do it again . It seems so many are repeating previous offences as soon as they get the chance..... l Sue x

Yes i do think they should bring back the death penalty and i would go one further, for crimes against children i would bring back the drawn and quartered, part of the death penalty. Roy

I've always been in favour of the death penalty.........but when you see so many people released over the years for crimes they didn't commit......it makes you think. But surely with the technology today........DNA....most people are guilty as charged. I would like to see it bought back for child killers........sorry......but if you can kill a defenceless child...then you dont deserve to live.... Rant over. Nite all....

Brian(i) Report 21 Apr 2006 00:35

The death penalty is too good for many crimes, but unfortunately it is also final and too late to rectify in 'we got it wrong' situations. Death is not a punishment, it is a release. I believe that some crimes deserve immediate death to ensure that we show to the lawbreakers that we will not be intimidated (?) but it should be slow, agonising and in public. Punishment must be a deterrant not only to the culprit but to everyone. Murder, Rape & Terrorism (Alphabetically) at the top of the list. I am a believer in Capital Punishment but we MUST be sure.
