I'm told that the Thai (or is it Indian ?) restaurant there is good though. And of course its near Whipsnade :) Still think, given the area that Joe has suggested, that Flitwick or Ampthill would be the best bet IAmpthill is a little pricey though I'm told...one my my colleagues has just moved from there to Hockliffe) |

House prices are sky high in Redbourn and Harpenden. They are affluent areas in Hertfordshire. In Bedfordshire there are largish towns such as Sandy or Biggleswade which are on the A1M. Viv |

Thankyou all for your input. Seems that house prices are going up, up ......... though if I go to the actual towns I may find more than I can see on the web. In my price range nothing in Ampthill (preferred place), nor in Flitwick. Luton I discount. There are some places in Bedford, Kempston and MK. Only been to MK few times - does the local council give you homing devices to its population ? Seems you go round and round in circles that never decrease - Magic Roundabouts got nothing on MK cept they aint so magical ! Coming to the conclusion that if I make this epic change it will be to Bedfor/Kempston or MK though I can't get a 'feel' for MK - it seems to be like Bluewater x 50 ! My age - too old to start moving really. I have been pensioner for some time !! and dau and family live Lidlington. |

I used to live in Ampthill........very pretty town but now very pricey. but with a beautiful park......one to be envied and I miss it a lot. My son lives in Flitwick, handy for shops, railway station, easy to get to and from places. I think it has the advantage of most things being on your doorstep. Good luck wherever you decide to go. Bedfordshire is a beautiful county. |

Joe... I take your poitn about the roundabouts, although once you get the hang of it, it really is quite easy to find your way around. There's always one of the older towns in MK - I'd suggest Bletchley - you can get the train from there to London (Euston), or to Bedford. |

Round in Circles? MK? you must be thinking of somewhere else! MK is all straight lines , up and down!! even the planner numbered them for ease, calling then H 3,4,5 /V 3,4,5 etc , except i can never tell if i am traversing the place vertically or Horizontally!! |

Isn't it Hemel with the round about that has roundabouts around it? lol and is nicnamed Magic Roundabout? lol |

Hemel has one famous roundabout, nicknamed the magic roundabout - its a nightmare the first time you see it, one large central island, with several small roundabouts around it - traffic coming from here there and everywhere ! Milton Keynes on the other hand is based on a grid road system, and therefore has LOADS of them, but they're properly spaced out lol |

Am Sussex girl born and bred but parents now live in Fenny Stratford, south of MK. Have lovely 2 bed hse with canal frontage on Grand Union. Fantastic amenites - just stone's throw from Bletchley. Have to say though everytime I've been (over 6 years now) there I've got lost especially when some H's run into V's and vice versa. Also as an aside you'll wear down your tyres on the roundabouts. |
