Just rembererd another. Chocolate Truffles. 32 digestive bisciuts 4 tbs dessicated coconut 4 tbs cocoa powder 4 tbs porridge oats 4 oz butter 1 tin condensed milk Crush digestive biscuits until fine crumbs. Put into bowl with all other dry ingedients. Put butter and condensed milk into a small pot and heat gently until butter has melted. Add to the dry ingedients and mix well. When cooled slightly shape into balls, about the size of a ping pong ball, and refridgerate until set. You can roll them in cocoa powder or dessicated coconut before putting them in the fridge. Anne. |

How about some Oaty Crumble. 8 oz butter 2 tbs golden Syrup 4 oz soft brown uugar 8 oz porridge oats 1/2 tsp salt. 8 oz SR flour Preheat over to 170c. Melt butter and syrup over a low heat. Mix dry ingedients together in a large bowl. When the butter and syrup mixture has melted, add to dry ingredients and mix very well. Put into an eight inch square baking tin and level out the top. Bake in the middle of the oven for 15-20 mins (I do mine for 17 mins and it is just right). When cooled slightly, cut into 16 squares. Great for lunch boxes. Raven. |

What a super idea! I'd forgotten melting moments. I used to bake 'automatically' so will have to have a think, might need to consult a higher authority - my mum! |

Victoria sandwich / cup cakes This mix can be scaled up easily - (2 egg mix makes 12 cup cakes, 3 egg mix makes 2 round cakes for a victoria sandwitch) 2oz Self raisin Flour (tesco value / asda smart price work well) 2oz butter 2oz white sugar (caster or granulated) 1 egg (preferable free range) 1 supermarket milk bottle cap of milk 1 cap of vannila essence. cream butter and sugar until pale and smooth. Beat in Egg and vanilla. Fold in flour Stir in milk. Spoon into tin / cases and bake at 180C until firm and golden. (about 10 min for cup cakes, 30 for larger cakes) putting a knife blade into the centre of the cake will show when it's done - a clean blade means a cooked cake. Decorate to taste. |

FRUIT CAKE ½ lb butter ½ lb castor sugar ½ lb mixed fruit and glace cherries cut small ½ lb SR Flour 3 large eggs 1 tsp mixed spice Mix well, and place in lined greased tin, make a slight well in the centre, sprinkle with a little demarara sugar and bake at 180 gas 5 for about 1 ½ hours. Will keep for ages. Gran was famous for these…. MELTING MOMENTS 5oz lard 3oz margarine 6oz castor sugar 8oz SR Flour 2oz Porridge oats 1 large egg 1 tsp vanilla essence Glace Cherries Cream fats and sugar, beat in egg. Work in the rest of the ingredients (except cherries). Break off pieces of the mixture about the size of a walnut. Roll in some extra oats and place on a well greased trays allowing plenty of room for spreading. Press a piece of cherry lightly on the top of each. Bake in a moderat over for about 30 minutes, allow to cool before removing from trays. (in this day of healthy eating, the lard can be substituted with all marg, but doesn’t quite work as well) And my favourites, which I got every time a stayed with Gran, MARSHMALLOW KRISPIES 2oz Devon toffee 2oz marshmallows 2oz butter or margarine 3 oz Rice Krispies Melt toffee, marshmallows and butter in a saucepan. Stir in the Krispies. Spread in a flat tin and leave until cold. Cut into fingers. Much nicer than the shop bought ones. |

I thought it would be a nice idea to share some of our family recipes, things our Grandmothers would cook. I will put a couple up here to get us started. These are for cakes and biscuits but they can be for any of the favourite recipes we remember that have been handed down to us. |
