I was fortunate to be blessed with perfect pitch and the ability to sight read music. I have sung with a variety of choirs and madrigal groups over the years, but sadly my voice is not of solo quality. Liz |

When I was young and belonged to the local operatic society I used burst into 'O Mio Bambino Caro' (Oh my Beloved Father) to my Dad when he was on the point of giving me a good wigging for some misdemeanour or other. Melted his heart instantly! If I reprise it nowadays the family say 'Didn't know you'd got another cat Mum' I now only sing in my head Harry, well except when I'm on my tod sloane in the kitchen cooking the Christmas lunch Cherry! |

No Harry, I can't sing a note but love singing! My children actually beg me to stop! It is now used as a punishment if they won't do as they're told 'I'll sing - I will' lol Kaz :o) |

We always sang in our house (no television!) and I continue the tradition! Especially early in the morning when I walk in the park and there is nobody to hear me. I am very disappointed in you Harry, always thought you would be a singing kind of guy:-) lol BC |

I love to sing! my dad used to sing in the local club filling in between the artists that were on, so I grew up listening and learning all the oldies 50s 60s 70s I still love to sing them now on my karaoke and in the pubs and in the bath! I also like to play the keyboards from time to time aswell. All my daughters are quite good singers too! must be a family thing as my grandma played the piano and a lot of my ancestors sang in the music halls etc. Marie: ) |

Good work. Didn,t know ciggies ruined your voice. Nice to here from the people who can sing a bit. condolences to those like me - hopeless. The gents public toilets at a certain place was isolated and had beautiful accoustics. When I was a PC on nights used to have a sing in there, out of the cold and rain. No-one ever caught me and it didn,t sound too bad. How,s that for useless knowledge. xxx Marie, re below. nice to hear of music being in a family. XXX Happy days |

I love singing Harry !!!!!!!! Unfortunately it doesn't love me. I 've been told my singing is like finger nails on a blackboard. Doesn't stop me though, especially after a few xx |

Being a bird (Huia, one of the wattled crows) of course i can sing. Actually I sing in a choir. Started as an alto as I thought my voice would have dropped in my 40s then when they were very short of tenors one time I switched to that. Extended my range downwards, so made sure I exercised my top notes, found I had over 3 octaves, albeit the bottom ones were a bit grumbly when I got them and the top ones a bit of a squeak at times. Ruined my voice in the upper tenor range, went very rough like rubbing hand over stiff corduroy. A singing teacher told me to 'stop it or else'. She was singing tenor in her church choir so knew what I was doing to get the right sound. She told me what I had already decided, that I was really a soprano. Gave me 4 lessons to improve my breathing, best money ever spent. Have also joined the basses sometimes in our practices when they are struggling to get the right notes. So I have sung all parts. Have had some small solo parts in a couple of concerts. |

Well now, how can I put it. Singing has always been popular in our family. Have GREAT memories of MAGIC Saturday nights when everyone sat singing around the piano (played by my Uncle - Winifred Atwell style) after he'd come in from the pub! Some of my relatives even won prizes for singing. Mam and Dad used to get up at the 'Go as You Please's'. Yes I can sing, although I can't hit those top notes like I used to, but I don't sound as run down as I remember my Gt. Grandma used to sound at 80 odd! God bless her. I also run out of puff these days! Maybe I should consider giving up my 6 daily cigarettes. And another thing is I can't remember all the words ... so la, la, la all the way now! Ah, thanks for this thread, Harry. You brought back some very happy memories for me there! Cheers! |
