I'm an only child and hated it!! no amount of toys etc made up for it! I mean what could is a game at Christmas when you have no siblings to play the game with?? Always said if I had children it would be more than one - I had two, I feel sorry for only children. Joanne But on the positive side I was spolit rotten and got horses bought for me!!! just to stop me from moaning I suppose lol lol

my daughter is an only child, her beau is also. I'm second eldest of 7 do you think that scared my off having more than one. lol

I'm the youngest of five. As a child I envied my best friend who was an only child and always had the things that I wanted but couldn't have. Years later she told me that she envied my mad chaotic noisy siblings.

Only child too and no cousins either (sob, sob). However made up for it - hubby is the youngest of seven and I now have 16 nephews and nieces, and seven great nephew and nieces (all by proxy of course). Didn't get married in a church, I would probably have had to drag complete strangers in off the street to fill my side of the church up.

Of my six siblings there are 18 nieces and nephews and now a great niece, so the next generation has started. Hubby only has one brother & on each niece & nephew. My mum is the eldest of 16 so my grannie has, 51 grandchildren, 53 ggrandchildren and now a gg granddaughter. If there's ever a big family event we would have to rent a football stadium. Good thing were scattered all over the country, less of a chance of us all being together at once. lol

I was eldest and only girl - had two brothers who I hardly see now - they are too busy making loads of money. My son is an only child. I lost my much wanted daughter at 3 days old, 8 years before he was born but as I did childminding when he was younger he always had people to play with and there were several people the same age nearby so he was never short of playmates and friends. One especially is still a close friend of his, they are always there for each other after 20+ years.

My mum was an only child, or so she thought! She was adopted and the adoptive parents did not have any children of their own. But in the last month or so we've found out that mum was one of 4 and her full sister is still alive and we are due to meet before the end of the month! So mum will experience both sides of the coin so to speak. She always longed for a sister when she was on her own growing up as a child. Claire

I was one of 3 but may as well have been an only child. First one sadly died in an accident before I was born and my brother. Well never at home always his Nana's and even when we grew up hardly ever came only saw him if I went to his house. Only seen him a couple of times in the last 6 years Can't say it did me any harm we carried on and I was happy with my Mum and Dad his loss. Germaine x

I may as well have been an only child. My sister is 9 yrs older than me, and married when i was only 10. We have never got on, not even as we got older, she really wasn't interested in anything i ever did. Now we are 12000 miles apart so it doesn't matter anymore. I also have an only child and she thinks its cool to be the only one.
