Saints Alive Report 9 May 2006 19:01

Dee as you know I love your Quizzes , and I also like to add my thoughts to the serious threads. But I do find with the serious threads that it can turn into a slanging match ( only because one person has misinterpreted what another person has said because they are not talking face to face ) . So if members want more serious discussions then lets have them , but lets have more 'mature' serious discussions and debates , without the negative effect of members getting there personal issues in the way resulting in the board becoming a war zone for certain members . Perhaps that is way the serious threads are not forthcoming!!!!!!!!! :-)))))))))))))))))))))))))))0

Hi Dee I too have noticed the 'lack of serious threads' lately. Have also noticed the absence of certain people who used to instigate these threads - Pat in Circles, Camberwell Beauty and Jacquie in Grenada to name a few. Enjoyed those debating threads! The last serious thread I posted had about 10 replies (it was about the latest bombings in Egypt) Fun threads seem to get a lot more response! Like you I prefer both sorts of threads - a nice variety to match the mood Im in! ;o))) Kim X

Personally I enjoy the mix. I like the jokes, the quizzes, reading of people's dilemas and how they sort them. I like to send best wishes to people for some celebration, good luck for exams, appointments or interviews and I like to send thoughts to those who have had bad news. I like the problem solving threads and the general information such as scams that are around or tips on how to do things. I also like the very mixed assortment of people that I would otherwise never have the good fortune to talk to. If a thread title doesn't appeal I may not read. But there again I may just have a peep and not post a reply! Overall I enjoy the board and I wouldn't like to see it changed. If I want something serious or genealogy related I pop over to records or tips. Jacky :-)

Here here. My pet hate is the discussion of medical conditions - if anyone wants to know how best to treat a sceptic ingrowing navel then log on to the NHS.

There is definitely a shortage of people adding threads to this site now - I know I don't come on a great deal, but it's definitely going down the pan lately because of a shortage of threads. I don't mind the trivia at all by the way. Stella

Quite honestly ?? I believe there is an even mix having just surveyed page 1 ..................... That said - we have had a bit of a frivolous day today but that's just the way it goes and very often when there are underlying tensions :O))

Isn't there room for both on this board? tips and records are mainly for lookups as far as i am concerned. I certainly would put a serious thread up here so don't understand! xx

Dee you are right, there is little to choose from in the way of serious discussion threads on this board, but like you said yourself, people want to get away from the stresses of everyday life, and those using genealogy to do that still need a break from time to time to get away from those brick walls. I do know what you mean though, but I think its mainly because there are so many threads on the tips board of that nature. Perhaps GR should introduce another board, just for trivia... T xx

There are plenty of ¨serious issues and topics of genealogical interest ¨ on the Tips and Records Board

Unknown Report 9 May 2006 18:26

The members of this site who wish to ‘discuss’ serious issues and topics of genealogical interest are being ousted from this board by those who want frivolity and light hearted relief from the day to day stresses of the world We have all paid our membership fees, and should all be able to find something to interest and amuse us on these boards, but sadly these days that does not appear to be the case Before anyone criticises me for being a boring old f*** I will point out that I have added my fair share of trivia in the past, and have no objections to it. Surely though there should be scope for more interesting threads, or am I in a minority of one here? Dee x
