Definitely a migraine!! My migraines start with disturbed vision. Then comes the headache (which is putting it mildly!). Other accompanying symptons that I can get are dizzyness, nausea, numbness, inability to think clearly. Best thing is to lay down in a dark quiet room as well as taking painkillers. Common causes of migraines are cheese, chocolate, stress. My mum hasn't been able to eat cheese since she was about 10 because of migraines. Even slightest bit sets it off. Other causes are striplights, oversleeping (I can't have a long lie in anymore!), drop in blood sugar (don't miss meals!). Here's hoping you don't get another for a long time! It might be worth visiting your doctor to confirm that it was a migraine and nothing else maybe to put your mind at ease. Joanne |

I agree with the others that it sounds like migraine. Many people mistakenly confuse a migraine with a bad headache, but it's not. I've suffered from migraines since I was 12 years old and I would say that although I do get a fairly nasty headache, the accompanying symptoms are worse than the pain. My symptoms are very similar to yours. You do need to get the diagnosis confirmed by your GP though, even if he then suggests you use over-the-counter remedies. Please be careful if you drive home from work tonight - could someone follow you home? Take care, Mandy :) |

I had something like this and the optician told me it was caused by 'dry eye syndrome'... he gave me eye drops and cured it instantly... having a cry stops it too, so if you can think of something that can make you cry, try it, it may work. Anne:))) |

If it continues, get your blood pressure checked at a chemist. (A friend had this, followed by double vision and it was caused by raised blood pressure) Jay |

Had it in the week Anne... only mine are black and white (you must be favoured LOL). It's a migraine... sometimes mine is followed by a headache but last week caught it in time and took tablets and the headache was only minor. The nausea seems to disappear when the flashings and swirls go. Jean x. |

It really does sound like a migraine. Some people get the 'aura state' which is kinda like what you described but may not get the headache bit till later, even the next day sometimes. Take it from a migraine sufferer (though thankfully it's not often) take the strongest painkiller you can (your pain may kick in soon so it's best to be one up on it) and some sorta sugary drink i.e. coke/irn bru and go lie down in a dark quiet room. if you cany manage that till you get home at least get the painkillers/juice down you.And please be careful if your driving coz some people get very giddy or disorientated when migraines attack. Hope you're ok wifie :-) |

Anne it sounds like the migraines I get! You need to take something cos it won't go on its own and the symptoms could get worse, I actually go numb down one side and can't speak when I get them! Hope you are feeling better soon! Julie xxx |
