you can get a spray over the counter called deep freeze in blue can with patterns on like icicles, its usually by the deep heat and rhuematic stuff, i was told to alternate between heat and cold patches, depending on what i could tolerate, a towel straight out of tumble dryers good , its soft and warm but only for heat treatment not cold obviously , sorry im rambling llol

Bec, I have osteoarthritis and osteopenia, so can sympathise with you and everyone else. What I was told by a physio last year was when your joints are inflamed, don't add heat to them, you need to cool them down, this is why we take anti inflammotary tablets. She recommended putting on ice or cool pads up to four times a day for ten minutes a time. I will find the info I received from her if you want and send it to you. I also use Traxam Foam, which I find very good, got it on prescription, not sure if you can buy it over counter. M.

My 6 year old daughter has Juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA). Found out what it was when she was 3 she has it in both sides of left ankle, one side of her right ankle and in her knee, and she has to have eye tests cos it can affect her eyesight.

Cherry - Interesting story. My mum has osteo-athritis but doesn't think many of our relations have had rheumatoid arthritis... just my luck! xx

It is certain that my Osteo Arthritis is hereditary. My Gran and my mum had their right hips replaced, and now me. They ahve now realised it is due to a malformed hip socket, which is deep but flat.

Girls, I'll just say this once and only once. When I was 34 I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. My youngest babe was 5 months old and I couldn't even hold him in my arms. I spent 4 months in hospital. A wonderful Rheumatologist thought that maybe there was a connection between food and the disease, remember I'm talking 30 about years ago. I was starved, put on a diet of only onions, then lamb,then.... nothing helped, etc, etc. His findings were that diet played no part in the disease whatsoever. Twenty years later he asked me to take part in a survey of why young women developed RA. His ultimate conclusions were that it is hormone/genes related. This, of course, is only my experience. Will definitely get one of those heat pads tomorrow. Will let you all know what Doc says and am also go to do some research. I'm not being a hypochondriac and certainly not self-diagnosing but it's looking more and more like it could be rheumatoid artritis. xxxxxx for you all!

Bec I am glad we don't have glass milkbottles anymore, and we can't have a dinner party as we don't have enough matching crockery where I keep dropping things. Mine might not be technically termed Arthritis not sure but have tennis elbow in both arms and cerical spondylosis which affects neck and now hips and knees have started. Maybe should change name to hobbler

I take Ibuprofen, glucosamine and cod liver oil, don't know if the latter two do any good, I dare not stop taking them. Ibuprofen is ok, sometimes I feel it's not helping at all but then I forget to take one and boy! Do I feel it! I also have cortison injections into the joint, (ouch) and they seem to help a little, but they have worn off. I will be going back to the docs soon to see if there is anything else I can take for the bad days. When I got into work on Thurs morning I was in tears with it.
