It annoys me that, for peace of mind, women are supposed to put up with the discomfort. Now, if a man had his testicles squashed in the same way they'd soon invent something different. I used to be a nurse and I still don't understand why they continue with this type of mammogram. (PS nearly 48 and seriously thinking about not submitting to torture when invited.) |

Oh boy - got another one booked THE DAY BEFORE THE WEDDING! - I will NOT be hugging anyone 'hello' LOL They can't get all mine on one plate, as it were! - Sooo twice the discomfort. It's all over very quickly though. I think the worst bit is having to walk from the cubicle to the machine with nothing on the top half. Ok if you're a size 16 and under. you don't feel if you walk fast you're going to knock someone out! Mags xxx |

LOL Chrissie - saucer would be ok for some. CB - I have no idea but I would think any lump would be obvious without the 'flesh' - unless they just use Ultra sound or Xray. I am going to have to find out now!. If no-one else knows, I will ask when I go. Mags xx |

I had a mommogram years ago, before I had children as I found a lump. My boobs were very small then, and barely went between the plates. The radiographer decided they needed more of me between the plates so she pushed her fingers between the plates, got hold of my nipple between her fingernails and pulled. It hurt. A lot. When I told her she that it hurt, she told me it was my own fault for wasting the doctors' time. Liz ;-) |

sorry I seemed to desert the thread - we had to rush off to brass band, then it was dinner .... you know the sort of thing! oh well, that's summat to look forward to then! perhaps if me, Daisy, Julie and Jeanette all went together, they could fit us all under one plate at the same time!! Liz's story has made me shudder - totally out of order when you are so vulnerable. Maz. XX |

when I went last week the lady said ' oh good at least you haven't got roll up's' when I asked what roll up's were she said ' we start at the waist and roll them up' then unroll them onto the plate !!!! no such luck here. It wasn't painfull though, just a bit squashy. |

For me the worst bit of the mammogram is that the blinky plate that comes down to squash your breasts always catches on my rather prominent breastbone! I get bruised there every time! Dee x |

A friend of mine recently had the call, and was really scared, but plucked up the courage to attend. She told the nurse she was scared that it would hurt, and the nurse said she would just lower the plate gently and would stop whenever my friend told her to, which she did. My friend only has poached eggs, but by that nurse's sympathetic action, she won't be scared of going again. Hope you all have sympathetic nurses. Liz |
