I so feel for you, it's heartbreaking. Think on the positive side, she is a good age and has had a wonderful life of love from you, although there is nothing anyone can say that will make it better for you. I do hope you will be ok, Take good care of yourself. Tina x |

Oh poor Tigger and how sad for you all. At least you know she had a good life with you all and was loved and cared for till the end. It sometimes comes to us having to do the kindest thing for them but it isnt easy making that decision. Shirley |

So sorry for you all.... My cat, Spyder was 16 when we had to make the decision to put him to sleep and it was awful but at least we gave him a lovely life as you have with your Tigger. Believe me, you are doing the right thing by not letting her linger in pain and suffering. It is still tough though, isn't it, especially when animals have been part of the family for years. Big hugs! Aileen xx |

I really feel for you. We lost our rescue dog Barney on Thursday and even though I have two more dogs the house seems empty without him. I am consoling myself knowing that he was given the death sentence three years ago when he had to have his spleen removed ( an aggressive tumour) he literaly bounced back from the op and won best in show two weeks after. Since then he has had two haemorhages and a stroke last October and fought back each time. This time he had given up so it was time to let him go. LOVE IS LETTING GO. But it's hard so hard. Elaine. |

My sympathies to you all. We had our 15 yr old dog and cat put down a fortnight ago tomorrow. I still think 'time to feed the dog' or 'I wonder if the cat wants to come in'. It had got to the stage where the dog no longer wanted to go for walks, only wanted to eat and sleep and the cat had had problems walking for quite some time and it had become much worse so it was the best thing for them. But I shed lots of tears anyway. Best wishes for the family. |

Thank God there are a lot of animal lovers on the site. We are so desperately needed because of the too many who cast them off when the first hiccup arises, When we take an animal on it is our duty too look after them come what may. Sometimes I do realise there are circumstances when some have to rehome but this should be done only when absolutely neccessary. Elaine. |

I am a dog person but I am sure that the same sentiment applies: A PET’S PRAYER If it should be that I grow frail and weak And pain should keep me from my sleep Then you must do what must be done For this, the last battle, can't be won. Don't let grief stay your hand For this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship stand the test. We've had so many happy years, What is to come hold no fear, You'd not want me to suffer, so When the time comes, please let me go. Take me where my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me to the end. And hold Me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will see it is a kindness you do for me Although my tail its last has waved from pain and suffering I've been saved. Don't grieve it should be you who this thing decides to do We've been so close, we two, these years, Don't let your heart hold any tears. SMILE, FOR WE WALKED TOGETHER FOR A WHILE |

I have been there too, six times over the last few years but thankfully all of mine were old cats too who had lived full and happy lives like Tigger. What you need to try to hold on to is that this is the best thing for her even though it hurts you so much. Thinking of you all, Christina x |
