As both Batman and Flora are publicly hiding behind a name, no one knows who they are, male or female. Both of them are happy to let members point the finger of suspicion to various ex members, and both seem to enjoy the fuss its caused....both still wont say who they are, and if they did now, im afraid no one will believe them. Theve dug their own grave. Elaine x |

COPIED AND PASTED FROM MY REPLY ON LOUISE'S THREAD. * * * * I'm many other people too when I'm playing out in The Village. Sometimes I forget to change my name - but always sign off as Mags or say who I am. I would miss not being able to change my name but I'm sure it's not beyond the realms of possibility to have a 'fixed' account name that shows if you were to click on an 'assumed' name. It won't stop those who join under a pseudonym but perhaps there could also be some sort of check stop on registering where the name of the account holder does not match that on the bank card used to pay. There are no doubt a few people that have their account subscriptions paid by someone else but in those few cases, perhaps the application and explanation could be reviewed separately by GR before acceptance. * * * * To me, it makes sense to have some sort of fail safe to help prevent so called trolls invading what is a unique and generally pleasant forum. The idea isn't new but one that could easily be adopted I would think. Mags xx |

Its trolls like these who spoil it for those who name change in harmless jest I think personally, we should be allowed one board name (as well as our real name on the account), which can only be changed by mailing genes. It would also be a good idea if it was possible, for genes to make a note of the ip address of those who are causing trouble, so they cannot re register. Elaine x |

Hi Elaine, I did mention that to GR recently (In one of my very few mails to them) and their response was that a number of members could share an ip address so it would not be possible. I don't know enough about the situation to know if this is correct or not. Mags xx |

ps. genes cant review every new member, in the last ten mins or so, about 47 new peeps have registered. How do I know ?, I took the member number of 'Flora' and added on numbers until I came to the last one....then checked around 10 mins later. It had gone from the top number to the bottom member number ****2877 ****2924 47 peeps in around 10 mins...no way genes can check every one |

Mags, if that is the case, then the family using the address would all be penalised, All members on that ip addy would recieve a seperate mail detailing this, so would have to take it up with the person causing the trouble in the family. If only genes would do this Elaine x |

Hi again Elaine, I know new members are registering at a great rate of knots but I also know that if I fill in any application on line and I make a mistake it will throw up an error message when I submit the application saying 'xxx field does not match yyy field' I imagined a similar check stop could be included in the GR registration form. Just an idea! LOL Mags xx |

Hi Elaine, Genes can review every member. They could install software that automatically logs the IP address when a new member registers. Other websites do this that are as busy as, or even busier than, GR. They could check the IP addresses against a 'banned' list automatically. They could add to the banned list when necessary. But they choose not to, so far. Maybe if we all urged them to reconsider then they would. Gwynne |

I do agree that there needs to be some way of identifying someone if they've either changed their user name or are pretending to be someone else - I think Mags had the right idea, or perhaps if all user names had the last few digits of their membership number after their name, I don't see why it would be so hard for GR to sort something out? I guess they're not really bothered? Kaye x |
