Thank you, hubby is still limping like mad but he feels a lot better already. Luckily we didn't book any day trips in a coach - this might be the chance of me walking quicker than him and beating him to the bar LOL

oK AFTER LOADS OF PHONE CALLS TO INSURANCE PEOPLE, DOCTORS AND CRUISE COMPANY IT LOOKS LIKE WE MAY HAVE A GOOD CHANCE OF GOING ON HOLIDAY ON SUNDAY - sorry, just realised I was shouting. Insurance lot have said we can go if we pay a bit extra, personal doctor has said it's Ok to go, hospital doctor has agreed and is contacting the ships health group as I type. Hoping doctor is just making sure we haven't told any little white fibs to the company. (We haven't - it's not worth it).Won't start packing though until we've contacted them again ourselves, which will be tomorrow now.

Do hope all works out so you can enjoy your cruise. I have had little faith in doctors since I lost my daughter, if the doctor had told me to come in and see him, instead of saying take a couple of days off and rest, I might have a daughter and grandchildren to visit instead of a grave. My dad was told by the same doctor for 18 months that he had a chest infection, when he finally had an xray it turned out to be lung cancer, too far gone to treat. We need to make sure doctors are kept on their toes, they can't afford to make mistakes and we certainly can't make allowances for their laxity? in diagnosing correctly.

Trish Report 6 Jun 2006 19:43

Hi June, no, we are due to go on a cruise on Sunday for a week to Norway (been planning this for 18 months). Doctors say they want to do a blood test every day for 7 days !!! We only have 5 days! One way around it I have just learnt is to maybe do an injection into the stomach each day until we get back - will see if the doctors agree to this at the hospital tomorrow, if they do then it's contact the cruise line and insurance people to see if that would be OK. Fingers crossed everyone.

Trish, Sorry to hear about Alan, it really is frightening. Thank goodness he has someone watching over him. Now he has been diagnosed he should be ok. Are you going to your usual lonely little spot? Best Wishes (and health) to you both. June xx

Trish Report 6 Jun 2006 16:58

Deb, I agree with you. They shouldn't have dismissed him just because he's over 50, a bit overweight and smokes a pipe a couple of times a day. This certain doctor hasn't heard the last of this.

Nell to a point I'd agree..........but he had a swollen leg & pain to quote Trish 'first doc said he was old, fat and a smoker and to go away' To me that's an idiot!!

I think its a bit harsh to call a qualified doctor an idiot without knowing the facts. Many medical conditions can be hard to diagnose and the symptoms aren't always clear cut. Many of our ancestors died of easily treatable conditions nowadays and I am very grateful that access to the health service is relatively simple for most people in this country. Best wishes to your husband for a speedy recovery. nell
