Do you believe that your life is mapped out for you from birth?

I think you make choices in life which take you on a completely different path. When you look back on things that have happened in your life you realise that if you hadn't gone to a certain place or done a certain thing your life would have been completely different now. Carol

No I believe that the turn of events determines your life. I always say that things always happen for a reason. Think back on events and you will find that if that event had not happened certain other events would have not occured. Lin

Not really, certain things we can't help, like if we are born rich or poor, but most of it is the choices we make........... Barbara..xx

Just a thought........ If a being who was standing on a planet 300 light years away could look through a powerful telescope at this moment and see the earth and its occupants, they would be seeing our ancestors. The bit of light in which we exist hasn't got to the other planet, but the future is set and unchangable. Trudi ;0)

Si if we could travel faster than the speed of light we could all go back and visit our ancestors!! Oh what a great though! Back to the Future!! Carol

But if you look back and think if i hadn't done that, life would have been different etc, what made you do that in the first place? was it fate that took you that way.?

If someone mapped this out, then I would like a bloomin word with the evil so and so! I don't think it's mapped out am not sure about the whole fate thing. I think you're life goes what ever way becauses of the choices you make, so not fate either good or bad decisions (in my case a lot of bad ones). I see fate in a different way like for instance if you are waiting for a bus and you get called back to where you had come from and then miss that bus and for instance something happens to that bus (just look at july 7th bombings). I sometimes wonder if it is fate that has jumped in and said its' not your time. But then wonder why was it the other poor souls. Not sure I think it fate or just life and it happens like that sometimes. Am off to consider this more.

I basically go along with what Louise said. I think perhaps there is a small map with certain points in our life that we are meant to get to, but how we get there and what we do in between those points is up to us. I think some things are meant to be, just as others are not. Kaye x

I believe we have a final destination and how we get there is our choice! i like to look at it like a motorway, if I choose to come off it and go on the A & B roads then so be it!! xx

I believe that everything happens for a reason ... whether it be good or bad. I put this down to fate .... so yes, I do believe that our lives are mapped out for us, but we are challenged with decisions along the way. Make the right decision at the right time and follow one path, make a wrong decision and follow another - but then you get the chance to right the wrong and go in an entirely different direction. Elaine :-)) Good at reading maps .... but not the one life throws at you !!

PinkDiana

PinkDiana Report 13 Jun 2006 12:32

Elaine - that's exactly what i was trying to say but in a much better way!! Choices take us where we go!! xx

Trudes

Trudes Report 13 Jun 2006 14:31

Elaine, I know what you mean, but who would know what is right or wrong? You make a decision at a particular moment, you never know what would have happened if you had chosen to do something else. We can only speculate. Fate is a real interesting concept. Anyone looking for a subject for a thesis? Trudi

There are certain things in my life where I wondered why?, and it wasn't until later that it all fitted in.

It seems to be a human instinct to believe that there's a reason behind things. We need life to have meaning. You can make a case that good comes out of bad - for example, you could be made redundant, but find a better job. But you might have found the better job without being made redundant. I love my sons, but if I hadn't had miscarriages before their births I would now be the mother of two other children. Is that fate? Or just nature destroying damaged fetuses? What is the point of people being killed in earthquakes/volcanoes/floods etc. nell

maybe a reason has to be created to take away otherwise young and healthy peoples, hence disasters?

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 14 Jun 2006 01:32

I have always believed in fate. The other day my son was bidding for a moped/scooter on ebay and as he was at work was having to do it through his phone? He thought he had done all he could to secure it but then told me later, he was pipped at the post. I just said 'Well you obviously weren't meant to have it then, something better will come along.' Later on someone he knows slightly told him his brother had a scooter to sell and son sorted out that he would pay on Wednesday if he could get hold of his cash by then. Today he called me and said the previous scooter purchaser had let the buyer down, and because he had asked the chap to do so, the buyer had called and offered it to him after all, for a lower price than he had thought he would have to pay. He was really chuffed especially when he later found out the second one had no MOT after all, so wasn't the bargain he thought it was. Now I will have another worry - him riding round on the scooter! He is very special to me, after having lost my daughter, but if my friend hadn't split with her hubby and at the last minute, joined her family on a holiday to Malta, she wouldn't have cajolled me into going back with her later that year just as I had moved into my house, with lots of problems over the work that had been done there, I wouldn't then have met my son's father and he wouldn't be here at all. Definitely Fate, couldn't have worked all that out myself!
