Do you have a pair of binoculars? If it is a planet, the (dot) will turn into a clear circle. Carole

Venus has already set & won't be visible again until about 3am, so we can discount that. Carole

I've been out into my garden, which also faces south, but it is too cloudy here, so I can't see any stars I'm afraid. I used to have a link to another website which was really good at detailing what was visible but I've lost the link. I'll see if I can track it down thru google. Carole

Talking of skies at night, can anyone see the moon from where they are ? I can't lol !! :0) Joan

Lynn, The Evening Star is the frst star you see at night and it is very bright and stays for a long long time and I'm sure it is South/South East. Yes I can see it. Viv

Ok let me explain, my garden faces south, if I stand in the garden the star is slightly to my left xxhugxx

Lindy, on the left hand side, under the heading Astronomy, cliick on Whole Sky Chart. Oops, I've just realised Jupiter is at SW, not SE.

My money is on Jupiter, as that does appear very bright in the sky and is in the right place. Carole

Viv its been there for at least an hour and a half now, doubt it a plane lol it is an amazing site can you see it from your side of town? xxhugxx I have got into heavens above but cannot figure out how to see what I can see.

The same website also tells you when the International Space Station is visible from your location. I have just checked & it will cross the sky from W to E between 23:51:35 and 23:54:35 tonight, reaching a maximum altitude of 83, which is almost overhead, so keep your eyes peeled! (this is at my location of course!) Carole

Whereabouts are you? Try going to http://www.heavens-above(.)com/ - you put in your location. Look at the page called Sky Chart, it will show what is in the sky from your location. I am in north Kent, & it is showing Jupiter as quite low on the horizon to the south south east. To the north east (but even lower on the horizon), Saturn & Mars are very close together. Carole

So curious am I that I am phoning the London Observatory tomorrow it is so bright xxhugxx
