I'm doing a 60km walk for breakthrough breast cancer in Sept, it's a big challenge as i suffer with brittle asthma, my collegue and need to raise £1500 each before we can do the walk, this is prooving hard right now, so if anyone would like to make a donation please go to www.avivabreakthroughbreastcancer.co.uk click for the london walk put my name Cheryl Hall in on the participant search and make a secure donation on line, or feel free to send a cheque to Suite2 1 George Williams Way Colchester Co1 2js, I'm very proud to be taking part in this challenge, last year 2,000 walkers raised £5 million pounds, during this walk, this year we hope to beat that record. I've only been signed up on GR for the last 4 days but and i'm humbled by the kindness and thoughtfulness of my fellow gene searchers, i thankyou all for your support. Cherylxx |

I don't have a lot of spare cash but shop in many charity shops so 'donate' in that way and donate things to the shops too. Do what I can when I can, to any I can help. Have collected masses of things like tents, blankets, shoes and clothing etc for homeless (displaced through civil war etc) in Novi Sad, Norwich's twin city in the former Yugoslavia and for other similar people. My friend and her husband have done huge amounts of work to get things through to those in need over the years and I was proud to help them. Liz |

We regularly give donations for cancer research, aids and muscular dystrophy. My cousin (who lives in the UK) organises fund-raising activities 2 or 3 times a year for the local hospice during afternoons or evenings. So, whenever we visit, we either take her something to put on her stalls or give her some money. Margaret |

Cancer We also do quite a bit of fundraising in our area for Dreamflight (UK based charity) and am often involved with that. Dreamflight was started by BA many years ago and sends children on a holiday of a lifetime to Disney. Was privileged to get an invite to Heathrow a couple of years ago to see the children leave - wow! - never to be forgotten - the party started in the old Concorde hangar with brass bands playing and the children joining in. Have never seen such a happy bunch of kids with so many disabilities. Apparently some 25% do not live much longer than 3-6 months after the holiday. |

My favourite has to be Sightsavers International, manned by voluntary eye doctors who are able to give people back their lives for the cost of a tube of tetracyclin ointment - there's a common condition, River Blindness I think it's called, where the eyelashes turn inward. (It just took a stray eyelash in mine one day to bring home what that condition must feel like.) Sightsavers also prevent needless blindness (resulting in loss of income and independence) in third world countries with simple, free, cataract operations, etc. Caroline Ahearne (Denise of the Royle family) is a patron, I believe. Save the Children, Cancer research, Christian Aid are regulars also, (small amounts I must add). I'll probably get slated for this, but it seems irresponsible to me not to give support anywhere, however small the amount, when most of us in this country enjoy a reasonable standard of living. Bearing in mind that very little can go a long way. Jumps down off soapbox and runs for cover, lol. Joy xx |
