Yes Heather, I have done and there are no marks whatsoever. I usually use a board for hygeine purposes, but if I just want to skin and chop a clove of garlic or something I don't bother with a board. I always put hot roasting trays and pans straight onto it rather than the ordinary worktop as it withstands heat. It really is fabulous. Liz |

Dizzy, where did you get yours, what quality/colour is it please. I heard the darker ones are actually worse at scratching. |

Dragon, in a way a smaller kitchen would be easier as the costs would be scaled down. But as I said, I really have waited all my life for a bit of luxury, so I want to be sure and to enjoy it! Im even having a dishwasher! And a double belfast sink. Of course the great fly in the ointment is that in the midst of all this, neighbour from hell bought next door and some of you know what that has meant for us. |

Mine is black with silvery flecks. I had it when my central island was installed, the kitchen company sourced it. They were called Diamond Interior Design in Marsh St, Hanley, tel 01782 212242. Liz |

Hi Jill, Im sorry but I want the real thing or not at all. Ive spent my life having second best (well 10th best usually!) and this is my one chance to get something special. Ive looked at the Corian stuff but its just not the same, it doesnt have the shine, depth or coldness of granite. Im sure it looks great but I am being selfish for just once. Oh Dizzy, thats the one hubby loved, I think its called Stars or something like that as the flecks shine out of the black. I think if we did get it wed have to think of the colour matching - the painted kitchen can be repainted any time, so youd want to have a top that would be ok with a lot of colours. And remember, we are talking whole worktop, not just an island here, so I have to think of the costings as well. I was going to have an island but decided Id have a peninsular from one wall as it then broke the room up into a dining area, so we can have a table, chairs and sofa one side and the working business the other side of the peninsular. |

Lol Roxanne. Heather - Our cupboards are pale creamy yellow and the worktop around the edge is pale wood (effect lol), so the contrast is lovely with the dark granite. It is really eyecatching when you enter the room. I cannot understand why people say it scratches easily - I have just tried to scratch it (in an unobtrusive place lol) and I simply cannot get it to make a mark at all. Liz |

Ive just been trawling the net for info and websites on granite worktop. Oh, they do look so lovely. But I have to say one site who sold them sell a cleaning kit aswell. It had a sealer for the worktop and said will protect for up to a year against staining except for acid based items like - vinegar, lemon, wine and cola! So what happens when they go on the worktop guys who have granite? I mean is it a permanent stain or can you remove it? |

Hi Heather, I have lost count of the number of times I have spilt all of the above on my granite worktop, and I have no stain or mark whatsoever. As I said before, a squirt of kitchen spray and a damp cloth is all that is needed to bring it up like new. Liz x |

My kids pour their drinks on my granite worktop and the cola regularly fizzes over the sides of the glass and makes a pool. Do they clean it up? Do they heck! So I find a sticky pool of cola several hours old congealing on my granite and hey ho, a squirt of Flash and its gone. Completely. Ditto Hubby and red wine. Liz |

Hi just caught your thread - I have the black with bronze bits in it and it looks lovely when all polished - Never had a problem with scratches etc its very hard wearing - so I'd say go for it. Only 1 problem with it and that you need to 'buff' it up :0)) every day so it looks great & I'm becoming a bit obsessive about it!!! Jenxx |

It all sounds lovely and I guess its a once in a lifetime chance for me. I like the Baltic Brown granite, blobs of light and dark browns or the tropical brown - not sure which. Have to think which one will go with most colours. The cost is really knocked up when you want the nice edgings though, isnt it. |
