Julie

Julie Report 20 Jul 2006 20:32

Funny this, was having this conversation at work the other day. I was Julie Misson, hated being Miss Misson, but invariably got called Mission. Always used to say actually there's only one i in my name but eventually got bored with saying it. Now I'm a Clapham, and we get Chapman, Clapton, Claphall. It really riles me that people cannot look at a name correctly. I have a Midwife sister where I work and says it's Julie Chapman, when I correct her she just says Yes. Still, we can't all be perfect can we??? Except us lot on here :))) Julie xx

I don't think is a case of liking surname or christian, but maybe more to do with the phonetics of the two combined. Mine, Andy Day, sounds whiney. I think. Named after Andrew Paterson , my G grandad. Not to bad as my mum would always say it, Andrew Day, but parents need to consider abbreviations. Mike Hunt being a classic! I would maybe have rather been named after one of my Day ancestors, Charles John or Joseph, or even Edward.

I'm indifferent to my surname - Gold. I don't like my forename and surname together though, which is strange. Too many people comment, mispell, pronounce it wrong and it drives me crazy! Having said that my surname has a history and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Married name is a bit boring - Tanner, but, despite being unusual, I didn't like my maiden name - then found out it wasn't my dad's real name - he was adopted at 14. Since then I've found out his 'real' name wasn't his REAL name. !! I know he was born - I know the exact date (apparently lol) just got to find out who his pa was. My grand daughter has a double-barreled name - father's first then mothers, cos there is only 1 male Tanner left from ex's branch of the family. maggie

I kept my maiden name when I married - just tacked Mrs on the front of it - didn't see any reason to take husband's name, especially as we knew we weren't going to have children. I don't mind people calling me by his surname (even if it is common as muck!)

Elaine - the problem is Keen and James just do not go together do they? Kaye Keen-James or Kaye James-Keen - sound stupid whichever way you put them. lol I did think about keeping my name, but to be honest part the reason we got married was because it was easier to share the same surname - got sick of people ringing up looking for Mr James or Mrs Keen, and having to say I'm Miss James but I'm Mr Keen's partner! lol If you ever get married you must make him take your name - it's too nice to change. Kaye, You could have kept your maiden name .. its still legal. You would just have been *known* as Mrs Kaye (Husbands surname) ... but your bank account etc stays in the maiden name etc. Its perfectly legal.... and quite a few people do it nowadays. Some also just have maiden name as well as married name and use double barrelled names. Children do NOT have to take Fathers surname any more either. You can give a child ANY name you want to now. Elaine ;-)

You mean I have been sending you emails all this time and you've only just clicked that they're from me? pmsl I decided it was too much hassle to change my email addy so it reflected my married name - that's why you got confused. Kaye x
