My OH tells the truth, but when he relates a story, he always exaggerates.......this makes me really annoyed because the stories stand well enough on their own - as anyone will know if they have heard one of mine......there is no need for embellishment....... I don't know why he does it, he is a popular and confident man...... |

Yep, A friend of mines Girlfriend told him that her cousin had died of Leukemia (Sp?) I knew of her cousin, but not really to say hello to. When I heard the news, I was shocked, as I didn't even know he was ill, because he always looked so healthy. The day after i found out that he had 'died', I went into town, went into Debenhams, and physically bumped into someone. Guess who it was? My mate wouldn't say anything to her though, but I did. Think it's especially sickening when someone lies about someone dying. Makes me feel physically ill. |

Actually I can think of two examples like this. One I'd almost forgotten about. When I was at school/6th form I think, one of my mates met this american girl and they started dating... they went out for weeks... his parents really took a shine to her, they took her to dinner, out on sight seeing trips etc... and then it turned out she wasn't american at all, she was a local girl putting on an accent (very effectively I might add). Secondly... a few years ago, on an online forum, much like this one, news reached us that one of the members had died in a car crash, knocked off her motorbike. Peoeple were terribly upset for her and her poor orphaned daughers... collections were started, people made travel arrangements for her funeral... only to find out a few days later that is was all a sick joke. |

My mother died last year believing her father's stories of how his parents died early on and he and his brothers and sisters were adopted. Having checked all the census', obtained copies of all relevant birth and death certifiates, I know this to be completely untrue. He died before I was born but according to my mother, never had any contact with his family in her lifetime. Perhaps there was an awful quarrel or falling out. Who knows, one day I may track down the families of his siblings and find the answer. |

Lots of times!! One in particular where after moving from the area, a few months later the husband came to our local pub and told everyone his wife had died and was still paying for the funeral... so we all had a whip round and collected more than the balance owing.. he couldn't thank us enough!! A couple of months later I was working and saw what looked like the double of the wife!! She saw me and came over and said 'hello Anne, haven't seen you in ages!!' I said' Well, I never expected to see you , cos you're supposed to be dead!!' I told her the story and she then said she had left him the year previous and gone to live down south, never expecting to come back up this way, but her and new partner booked a Mystery Trip and ended up in Chester!! She then went to the police and they eventually found him and charged him with fraud... also the brewery he was working for audited the books and found he had been embezzling money for years. He got jailed in the end. So, sometimes, what goes around comes around... Anne :))) |
