For Paul aged 7 years, my little foster brother, run down and killed by a thoughtless drink driver one week before Christmas, December 17th 1969. Always in my thoughts. A screech of brakes, a mother crying In the road her child lying A driver clamboured from his car He wasnt really going far A couple of pubs and home again But still he had caused grief and pain If he had just thought Dont Drink and Drive This child in the road Might still be alive. My grandparents lost their only child...my mum. Now Im a parent myself, I cannot for one moment imagine their pain, which they took to their graves years later. Im going to give both of mine a kiss now, despite connie being still asleep. My heart goes out to all who have lost a child, in whatever circumstances....before or after birth....as a child or adult. I've not been in this position and hope with all my heart I never am. Therefore, I don't feel qualified to add but I am so sorry for all who have lost a child no matter the age.. I always say when talking to a bereaved person to try to remember all the good times because otherwise it seems a waste (not the right word but can't think what else) of the good times that person had..But this is so different Christine xx |
