I pay too- and have since the site first started from Friends Reunited - when THIS board was Reunited instead of fragmented! And this is not whining thread dear! I would just like to see some more mature content and less of the drivel and complaints. And YES - the amount of useless stuff on personal computers does slow down a website. And wouldn't it be nice, D,i to go back to the good old days of a couple or three years ago when everyone was civil and the threads were interesting and informative and one knew whom one was talking to? I guess as we live so far away and are unable to attend meets (and we are too far apart to have our own) we are the 'outlaws'. ..and Hassell - take your finger off the keyboard a tiny bit earlier! I don't often post but the whole tone of the board lately just irks me.

Well, it would be a very boring world if we all liked the same things. Not everything on the Gen Board is of interest to me either but I accept it is of interest to others. If other members enjoy the threads then that's fine with me. I certainly wouldn't be bad mannered enough to comment on others in such a derogatory way. There is a world wide web out there, if you don't like GR find somewhere else Gwynne

Hi Joan, Well said! I rarely if ever post anymore, except for the Canada and Friends and neighbours threads, but do peep in to see if there has been any change to the board. So, like you, I was pleasantly surprised this morning to see the 'Good Old Days' thread; remember the previous one back in 2003 or 4, which continued for weeks, and was just filled with nostalgia, humour and good-will. If I remember correctly, wasn't the General Board given to us so we could have longer term threads like the one mentioned above, and Ray's 'Poet's Pot', and Tracy's 'life after death', while the chat one remained for people to have a quick-fire chat, which seems to have crept onto the general board, along with the abuse and disrespect of others, and crowded so many folks, not just off of the latter, but often from the website altogether. So, as Joan says, grow up and let's have a lot more adult content on here. And that's my opinion, like it or not!! Love and peace to all fair-minded, honest people, Di in Tis Was.xxx

I agree, Anne, the performance is unacceptable for a professional, fee-paying site. Only a small percentage of members use the message boards so I doubt that any 'cleaning up' - e.g. deleting old threads etc. would make very much difference.

Sorry - but I don't see how what members do or don't have on their own PCs - cookies or otherwise - is relevent to the slow running of GR If you had Broadband you would see the difference and understand why members are complaining - when a page that normally takes 2 seconds to refresh is taking nearly 2 minutes. Would you blame passengers for a train being late cos they got on it ? This is a professionally run site, not a tin pot amatuer site - and I think it's paying members are more than entitled to expect it to perform to top spec.

It seems to me that this is also a whining thread.

So Joan and your friend Mancunian Lil are you insinuating that members like myself are to blame for the site running slow today ?? . Tell you what why don't all us paying members stop kin posting make life so much easier wouldn't it .

Thanks Lil! I bet there are many, many people who have never read Judy's threads about keeping their own computer up to snuff. Cleaning out their cookies, doing a disc clean up, defrag etc. Those things also slow down the way they surf the web. I use a program called Tune Up utilities 2006 and never have any problems. It is still very frustrating to open thread after thread that is nothing but a complete whinge.

Joan Well said, i remember someone adding to a thread requesting members delete from there inboxes as some have silly amounts stored there, which can only result in slowing the site, Lil

Whining! When you get three threads by the same person on the same subject and all the drivel that should be on the chat board no wonder the site is slow. I am dialup and don't find it any more slow than any other site - some of which also have log jams. No wonder people leave when all they see is complaint after complaint. It doesn't do a scrap of good when the most obvious reason for slowness is over useage. Lets have more threads like the 'Good old days' and ones of interest to lots of folks instead of some of the 'junk mail' that has been on here recently. Do you want to lose the board altogether? Grow up! That's my opinion - like it or not!
