Snap then Polly! On my grandfather's side although all the menfolk were born, married and died on Skye most worked on the docks in Glasgow to actually earn a living! |

Hi Lorraine, if you give me the name I'll look up 1881 Census disc for you. Any of them born in 1855? If so heaps of info on them - think the only thing not on is their shoe size! Date and place of parents marriage is on the certs as well and from that you can get the marriage cert and then their parent's details as well taking you back another generation. Try curiousfox (G**gle it) that gives you some details about others who might be looking for same people (free to look at and I think you can send a message) and also maps of the area at the time. Also scotsorigins which is free (parish records) and freecen (follow links for Scotland) gives you free access to 1841 and other censii as far as have been transcribed. Apart from that, just G*ogle Govan and see what comes up. Main industry at the time was Ship-building but I'm pretty sure there was a Sugar refinery there as well. |

Get yourself on to Scotlandspeople.you can print off your images. £6 for 30 credits. 1 credit per search,5 per image. a lot cheaper than buying a cert. You will get parents names as well as spouses on them and occupation..a good worth lol Marion |
