I was at work and a colleague took a phone call from her hubbie telling her about it...my response was, 'It's an internet scam - nothing like that could happen', so much for my opinion! |

Hello Debs, it was awful, wasn't it. My husband phoned and told me to switch on CNN as there was news about a plane going into a skyscraper. I did this and could not believe my eyes. I also watched in horror as the second plane struck, and the towers collapsing one by one...... To tell the truth, I couldn't take in what was on the screen, I did wonder if it was some sort of trailer to one of the American doomsday type films.....but it was real, and not real, if you can see my meaning.....the awfulness remains, and I did at the time think of the many thousands that would have been crushed in those buildings.......it was amazing that there were about 4 thousand, but that is a tragedy in itself..... |

I switched on TV for Countdown, and was irritated that some stupid film about planes and skyscrapers was overrunning, After s minute or so, I realised, to my horror, this was the news. Anne |

I don't know how long after it happened it was, but I was at work in a primary school. It was just after lunch. I came out of the staffroom to find our caretaker cleaning the dining room floor and another teaching assistant saying that it was awful as someone had flown 2 planes into a building in New York. I didn't really take it in, I assumed there must have been an accident, but it seemed odd that there were two planes and that they hadn't crashed away from a town centre, as I know pilots do all they can to avoid that if they are going to crash. I think I thought that maybe the planes had somehow collided in mid-air, which seemed very unlikely. Collected my sons from school, came home, turned on the tv and watched in complete disbelief. It was like some special effects James Bond movie. Then there was the news about the two planes in Washington and I just couldn't take it in. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ At school the next day, I was talking to a couple of children. One of them said had I heard about the planes and how awful it was. I said that everyone felt very sad about it, and a little girl said yes, she was very worried because her holiday might be cancelled! Reminded me how small kids live in their own world, not ours. nell |

I was pregnant with my first child and had been to hospital for a scan that morning. When we got home i put the telly on to relax and put my feet up. Couldnt believe my eyes - hubby thought i had put a film on. I just sat there rubbing my bump and wondering what i was bringing my child into. Probably one of the saddest days ever. Thoughts for all those that losed loved ones that day and every day since to terriorists |

It was my day of and I do like to watch the mid day news and I had 24 news on. Called my husband down when I saw the first plane hit but he wa busy and didnt bother as we thought it was an accident but I was gobsmacked when the 2nd one hit. He came down to see then. I worked in the garage then and the next day I had the usual jokers coming in telling me little quirky jokes about it. Cant make some people out when there is a disaster like that how they can even think of joking so soon. Same thing happened when Diana died. |

I was on holiday in Munich. Wandering about the centre & could'nt make out why there was crowds of people looking in cafe windows etc. It was only as we went down into an Irish bar that we realised anything had happened. Total silence in the bar. Rest of holiday was almost spent watching & listening to tele & radio. God bless them all. Hilary. |

I had come down stairs ready for the day. The kids were eating breakfast. I thought that they were watching a Steven Segal movie at first glance. My husband informed me it was live TV. My blood ran cold (I have goose bumps thinking about it). As I work at a high school, all of the classroom TV monitors were tuned into the local news station. We watched in horror. I went outside on my coffee break to listen to the radio. I remember that there was a flight being 'escorted' by the airforce into Vancouver Airport (from Japan if I remember correctly). They hadn't complied or responded to 'official' requests. I wondered if Vancouver was next to be hit. All turned out well. As all flight in US airspace were diverted to airport outside the US, Vancouver became 'host' to hundreds of aircraft. The local radio station was asking for volunteer families to take in our unexpected visitors. I called my husband to get hold of the powers that be, saying that we would take people in our home. The local authority had turned school gyms and available hotel rooms into temporary accomodation for the people affected and there was no need for any further 'foster homes' for the people affected. The one thing that will always stick out in my mind was the silence. No air traffic flew over the Vancouver area for over 24hrs. My thoughts are with the families of all those killed that day. Deb |
