I wish you very good luck Theresa My Dad had his done and wished he'd had it a lot sooner ~ he looked 10 years younger afterwards! Plan the next 6 months to get yourself as healthy as possible for the op , good food, no fags, lots of water and fresh air, exercise gently if you can. Friend of mine ~ in her 60's insisted on a bikini wax before hers too !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;0)))) Jen xx

Well.....I've been, met the surgeon, who was brutally honest with me. Made me cry in fact. He said he's happy to do the op now, and it will be with epidural, but.... It won't last more than 15 years, he may be able to do another then, but after that there will come a time when he won't be able to do any more and by 70 I may be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. Did I think that is a fair price to pay for a better quality of life now? You can bet your bottom dollar I do!!!! So, in about 6 months, I'll be chopped about, drilled, sawn, hammered and repaired. No more cortisone, he wants the joint clean. He also asked if I was willing to take the risk of infection, thus being worse off than I am now. one in 100? I think so lol So now I've only got to get through the winter and I start getting my life back for a few years at least. Scary stuff!

Thanks Hayley, sadly that is precisely why the put me on the jabs in the first place, they didn't want to do it, but last time he said it needs doing and I only have to say when I'm ready. I need to ask about having an epidural, I'm terrified of the general anasthetic, never had one before. Not scared of the op, even though I've seen it on TV, and its brutal! But someone told me I could have an epidural, and I think my mum did last year when she had hers done.

Good luck for tomorrow Teresa. I've had those injections for tennis elbow and frozen shoulder they are really really painful and they didn't work, I ended up having a operation for both complaints. I do sympathise. Sue

Gloryer, the consultant at the hospital recommended them. Is your mum under the hospital for hers? If so get her to ask about them on the next visit. They don't do a lot, and certainly don't help much with the walking, but they do make it easier at night, and I don't keep getting woken up every time I move. They hurt a lot though, just be aware of that, they go right into the joint, at the part which triggers the pain.

Sore jab, I believe, hope it gives you some pain relief and extra mobility for a few months anyway - if so then, it's worth it. Good Luck. Christine xx
