My friend has 4 sons, 2 being a good few years older than the younger ones. When the eldest started questioning her about whether or not there was a Father Christmas, she told him it was not just a case of whether or not he believed in Father Christmas but whether Father Christmas believed in HIM and if the said son didn't want to believe, that was fine but he mustn't be disappointed if Father Christmas only then left presents to the children, who did believe. .... That got her by another few years without the 'magic' being spoilt for the younger boys. Gwyn..... a grandmother, who still fills pillowcases on 24th

Aw Jeanette that's sad, I love Christmas and as each one found out I said well then you don't need sacks anymore if you don't believe. They soon changed their minds and still have their sack if they stay with me at Christmas! Thank goodness I still have my 11yr old, although he knows it's us, he still goes on about Santa in case his sack 'disappears'! lol Nanna-Moo ;-)

Catherine, I actually think someone dressed up in a weird red suit with white bushy whiskers that hide all their facial features is a very scary thing for young kids. Why should they like him? Let's face it. We parents have to do a lot of hard sell and bribery to make our young kids accept this strange person. Like 'if you're naughty he won't bring you any chrissy presents' or 'if you sit on his knee for a photo I'll give you a lolly' etc My own kids didn't like the santa figures in shopping centers at all and I couldn't see any reason why they should :) Vonny

I worked out the toothfairy quite early and I can remember feeling vaguely dissappointed that I'd been lied to. I was about 10 when I found out about Father Xmas. My parents made such a big thing of it though that I didn't have the heart to tell them. Eventually, when I was about 14 they sat me down and asked if I still believed. (My Dad was the one person I didn't want to upset because he had such an awful childhood he wanted me to have everything he never had)

I suppose it is a bit of a shame, but it has it's good points. She would never go away at Christmas incase Santa didn't know where she was! lol. And at least she can tell me exactly what she wants now instead of me having to secretly pump her for info!

Its so sad when they stop believing isnt it? My boys at 14 and 11 dont believe in the big guy in red anymore, and i must admit i really miss having to hide all the pressies until they have gone to bed on Chrstmas eve.

my daughter is exactly the same-I not told her the truth-but she knows-glad I got a little one to keep it going-only thing is he hates santa-full stop. cries his eyes out at the name of him-and for seeing him-total trauma. He was born on christmas day you would think he's like him wouldn't you? catherine xx

Not in this house anyway! 10 year old came home from school yesterday and said her friend had told her that there was no such thing as Father Christmas and demanded that I tell her the truth. I asked her what she thought and she said 'Well you and Dad lied about the tooth fairy!' LOL. I tried putting off telling her the truth but she wouldn't stop going on, so I had to own up in the end. Fotunately, she isn't the slightest bit bovvered! Jeanette x
