Good luck Pauline. When i had my scan i had headphones that had nice music on. A tip close your eyes and don't open them till you come out, then you will not get closterfobic. ((((((((hugs)))))))))) Val xx |

My dad had an MRI scan just a couple of months back, on his head only. It was thought he might have had a stroke, so they wanted a look at what was happening in his head. I went with him, and waited outside. I could hear them talking him through every step of the way, explaining what they were doing, and how long each section would take, and was everything ok etc etc. It took about 15 minutes. He said it was a bit noisy. You'll be fine. Good luck. Karen x |

Hi Pauline I've had several of these in the last couple of years when I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer - last one I had was about a month ago and I had the injection of dye (possibly the stuff you mentioned). The way that I get through them (I suffer with claustrophobia so having one of these done is a complete nightmare for me and I always end up in tears) was to have them speak to me after each section was completed (they are usually in 2-3 minute stints) and after each one they would say 'Are you ok? Next one is going to take 2 mins and we'll be right here.' They also give you a panic button to hold as reassurance. Some of the newer set-ups have ear-phones so that you can listen to music whilst you're in there. If not, they will usually put earplugs in your ears because those MRI machines can be quite noisy things. If it's just your head you're having scanned it'll probably take about 20 mins or so, so not too long. Hope it all goes well for you and that the results are negative. Best wishes - Athena |

It's just on my head, and they are going to use something called Gadolinium which I think is a substance which shows up any abnormal cells. Bit nervous about it. Wish me luck. PP x |
