Little Lost Report 7 Dec 2006 15:57

I think I may have found to many secrets so most of my family clam up LOL Must say though I was never interested in history of any sort when I was at school but this hobby opens up another world to you This morning I went to my grandsons school christmas concert and found myself reading what the children had put on the walls about a family from the 1880's when they had visited Normanby Hall near Scunthorpe. The family had 3 children George Mary and Alice Sounds familiar........and they only had a bath once a week in front of the range.

They all think I am nuts. They ask what will I do with the information (haven't come up with an answer yet!). But when I find info or get a new photograph they all want to know and have a copy! Jacky :-)

I STARTED MY SEARCH, IN APRIL THIS YEAR, AS I NEEDED A NEW INTEREST, NOW THAT THE CHILDREN HAVE LEFT HOME AND WITH MY SIGHT PROBLEMS I HAD TO FIND NEW INTERESTS. I WAS WARNED, THAT I WOULD BECOME ADDICTED AND I HAVE. MY OH, IS INTERESTED ALSO, SO IT IS A JOINT EFFORT BETWEEN US. WE HELP EACH OTHER IN OUR OWN WAYS. THE REST OF THE FAMILY HAVE NO INTEREST AND CANNOT BE BOTHERED TO CONTRIBUTE IN ANYWAY. BUT THROUGH THIS SITE AND ROOTSCHAT, I HAVE FOUND 'DISTANT COUSINS WHO ARE ALSO ADDICTED. THEY ARE SO KIND AND GENEROUS WITH THEIR INFO. I POSTED A THREAD ON ANOTHER BOARD HERE ON THIS SITE LAST WEEK AND HAD A WONDERFUL REPLY FROM ANOTHER MEMBER. SHE IS GOING TO WANDER THE GRAVEYARDS, LOOKING FOR MY AMCESTORS. SHE HAS TAKEN AN INTEREST IN MY ANCESTORS AND IS KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH LITTLE BITS OF INFO., SHE HAS FOUND AND IS ALSO ASKING ME QUESTIONS. I WANTED THIS RESPONSE FROM FAMILY, BUT AM HAPPY WITH THE COMPANIONSHIP OF MY NEW FRIEND. i FIND THE WHOLE SOCIAL HISTORY OF THE TIME INTERESTING AS WELL. IMAGINING LIVING CONDITIONS, THE CLOTHES THEY WORE, THEIR LIFE AT WORK AND AT HOME ETC ETC. PIPS XX

Well my family, my mother in particular, has always been interested in what I've been doing, as she never really knew any of her family..

Most of mine are interested and like to be kept informed on what I have found. When I asked one of my cousins for some info he told me to 'get a life' but thats his problem. lol Jackie:o)

Most of them aren't bothered, but at my brothers wedding I got talking to my Aunt who is researching her family. Told her I'd show her what I've done on her husbands side when I next see her. My mum is interested as far as her grandparents are concerned, but that's it. Hubby pretends, but I know he couldn't care less lol
