I think they were around even in Tudor times, we used them on a childrens event at the place I work at, they are such fun ;-))

I remember a piece of card with holes in it. It was on a loop of thread. You put one hand through the loop either side of the piece of card and moved your hands in and out, making the card spin and it used to make a noise. Anyone have the faintest idea of what I am on about?? ;-)))
