Child Benefit was the original Tax Credit - everyone gets it and those who don't need it pay it back in their taxes. It is the same with personal allowances - every one gets them. OC

What bugs me is my eldest was on an apprentiship, got £2.50 per hour(minimum wage rules don't apply to apprentiships),his child benefit was stopped because although he was a full time student, he only spent 1 day a week at college, the other 4 1/2 days a week were work based learning days. Now his apprentiship has been terminated, he's on a full time college course(2 1/2 days a week), i'm told i can now reapply for his child benefit though!!!! Very Confused Izzy.

I think it should be paid depending on income. A couple that live up the road from me, live in a 1.5 million house and are just about to buy a 2.5 million house. They want for nothing, the child has every possible gadget and toy out there. They have a cleaner even though she does not work (doesn't need too). The child benefit is pocket change to them. I do not begrudge them anything they have incase anyone thinks that. I do however think that the child benefit they recieve could go to a more useful cause. Yes they pay more tax than me, but I don't have children so why is my tax paying towards theirs and others children? if thats the argument??

Apparently the 12 hours have to be college/school based learning, and as my son only did 8 hours college based learning child support was stopped, even though he was classed as a full time student by the college and was entitled to a student union card, student discount card for local shops and facilities. If any one can work out the governments thinking on this lot then let my know, cos all i know is i,m still supporting him full time and getting jack all help in doing so, even though i'm on a very low income.

there was a thread on here once before that stated people from other countries working over here or even not working over here can claim for their families left behind because they still have to support them. No wonder our country is in such a state.
