The bus didn’t stop at our stop the other day but did actually let us off when he had to stop at a red light not too far past. They are not supposed to, nor are they supposed to open the door after closing if somebody just gets there ( in the bus station) but some do.

I think they can have passengers standing.

I remember how horrified my husband was when I showed him the route we used to walk on the way to school, it was about a mile, we walked to school then if it was raining at home time we got the bus. :-D

Belle we have someting similar but the bus does go around estates and can be

hailed there. Once back on the main road it stops at the bus stops which are not very

far apart. This too is the London suburbs. Those who use the buses know how it works ;-) ;-)

I live in the suburbs of London and there is a bus route that runs along a road parallel to mine. You have to wave the bus down on that road but when in gets back onto the A road you have to use the bus stop, if you don't live around here it is very confusing :-0 :-D

Like Andysmum, I too live in a rural part of Scotland, and buses (not that there are many!) will stop if you flag them down - and if they're not already full.

Of course, you have to use common sense, and stand where the driver has time to see you and react, and can stop safely .

nameslessone I do to and sometimes the bus driver would do it for me.

I remember in the 50’s when the Southdown buses stopped like that - don’t know when they stopped doing it. But never really known it anywhere since.

I remember the days when you folded up the pushchair before getting on the bus

I can remember when busses were full and some people had to stand, I think that that is not allowed these days.

I remember buses stopping if you waved them down but these days even if they go past your stop after you've rung the bell and its their fault, they won't stop to let you off until the next bus stop because "they are not allowed to because of insurance purposes".

You'd think that as long as they check the road and stop safely it shouldn't be a problem.

You are very lucky in your area Andysmum :-)

Aw that's lovely Andysmum.

Ours still do. Because it's a rural route the stops are a very long way apart and people frequently wait by the side of the road instead of walking a mile to the stop. They will also drop you off outside your gate if you ask. :-)

Who else remembers when buses stopped because you flagged it down but it wasn't a bus stop?
