There must be a few on here who, like me, can just about remember all the excitement and street parties and celebrations.

I can actually remember the street lights going on but that will have been a bit after VE day itself. As will the street parties of course.

Not me, I wasn’t born until four years after the war. My first celebration memories were of the Queens coronation, we had a church service followed by a party in the church hall. We were all given a cup ,saucer and plate which I still have

We lived on the edge of a town in one of a few houses built before the war stopped all building. The road wasn't made up and there were no streetlights etc. so I don't remember VE day itself, but I can remember the war. Going to school in pitch darkness in winter (on my own), watching the searchlights in the nearby town, being careful not to break the blackout rules etc. I was nearly 8 when the war ended.

I can just remember sitting at a table in the street .............. have a photo that proves it!

My grandmother is standing behind me, and the table is surrounded by other mothers and older children.

I don't know where my mother was as I don't recognise her in the photo.!

Strangely Sylvia, I can't see my mother in the photo of my street party.
