We lived on the edge of a town in one of a few houses built before the war stopped all building. The road wasn't made up and there were no streetlights etc. so I don't remember VE day itself, but I can remember the war. Going to school in pitch darkness in winter (on my own), watching the searchlights in the nearby town, being careful not to break the blackout rules etc. I was nearly 8 when the war ended. |
