I am sorry to hear about your friend's husband Florence. so young too, what a shock for her.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 26 Feb 2025 12:00

Oh that is sad Florence, sixty is such a young age, well to me it is.

OH just came back from the library in town. He impulse bought two winter flowering Jasmines to plant on his new fence. A bit premature as the wood isn’t even arriving until tomorrow, so he repotted them and they will be fine for a while. We have a shop called Yorkshire Traders which sells just about anything you could possibly want. Not a cheap pound shop, it sells better quality things and it is extremely useful. I bought Esme’s present from there yesterday. They sell plants outside and always have really good offers on shrubs as well as all the bedding plants in the summer

This afternoon we are going back to Thirsk to meet up with a group of friends at the cafe in the local garden centre. They sell lovely scones, so that is going to scupper my diet :-(

Morning all
Lovely day here after last stormy and wet days.

Been a bit subdued as still trying to accept the very sad news I received on Sat eve.

One of my local best friends up here sadly and suddenly lost her husband last Saturday afternoon aged 60. He had had some health issues but was getting better so this sudden news left me shocked to the core. He was only 60.

The funeral is tomorrow and so I am going along with my daughter as we had a kind lift to go.

He was well known so Im sure it will be a very large gathering.

Hope everyone else is ok today

It is only four degrees here Ann It is very dark and is going to rain for most of the day :-(
It has been nice and sunny for a couple of days and lime you my thoughts were turning to spring.

I had a very nice afternoon yesterday at the memory cafe. Oddly there were very few clients there, but we had a domino drive , so I was able to have a good chat with a couple who I was on the table with. The lady was hardly able to walk, very frail, but very interesting to talk to, her husband is a very chatty man as well. Poor things have had a bad couple of years. First of all they had been injured in a car crash for which they were totally blameless, where someone shot out of a side road without looking. Then their house was flooded and they were out for over six months, they were only able to move back in late October. I remember reading about the flood just after we moved here, it was caused by surface water flooding because all of the drains on the old estate were blocked, though I remember reading that the council denied that. They were most annoyed with the fact that they had only just had a new kitchen fitted.

I am glad that you are feeling much better Sylvia, hopefully if the outbreak is over in your unit, things can get back to normal. Your poor OH won’t be pleased to be cooped up, I hope that he will comply with the rule, it must be difficult for the staff to keep some people in their rooms if they can’t understand why they need to stay their. Are you able to talk to him on the phone?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 26 Feb 2025 08:40

Sylvia, your poor OH will probably have trouble understanding why he is not seeing people, that can't be good in his position. I assume that means he can't see you either? you sound as if you are feeling better. It will be good when you can meet with your friends again.

I am looking forward to being picked up by my friend's daughter this morning to go to her Mum's house for coffee.
It is 5 degrees here and very wet so spring has gone back to sleep again. Pity I was getting used to the lovely sunny days, even if a bit cold.

Ah well,

the nurse in Multi Level Care called me this morning to say OH was being isolated in his room because he had had contact with someone who had flu.

He's not too happy about it!

The Manager of AL and MLC announced at lunch time that the outbreak seemed to be at an end in AL, or very close to it, with just a few people still in isolation. BUT MLC falls under a different category with the Public Health people .......... they now have 2 cases of people with positive results for Flu. That has to be reported to Public Health, and "will probably be declared an outbreak", which leads to much stricter conditions. So we wait to see what happens next.

I'm feeling much better. Had a nice talk with a doctor from the Family Practice Clinic earlier this afternoon ...... I needed to get prescriptions renewed by them. I had made an in-office appointment 2 weeks ago but knew I could get a phone call instead (follow-on from what happened in the pandemic). I phoned last Thursday and asked for the change to a phone call as I really wasn't sure when I would be out of isolation. All prescriptions renewed and faxed to the pharmacist who will keep them on hold until I phone to get a new supply of each one. Then they deliver it here to the Residence for me. :-)

The doctor told me I sounded younger than my age :-D

It was a young woman not a man!

I will be seeing her in-office next Tueday as I need to get some forms filled in by "the doctor".

sounds a bit like me playing whist with my late OH. He could memorise all the cards played and he could even visualise what I probably had and how I would play it. we invariably wone because of this that was 1970s at a golf club. they wouldn't let us play together after that.

Aawe poor esme Linda it is so debilitating for her. and wearing for her Mum too. somebody who used to be on Genes has an adult (now) daughter who suffers with cyclical sickness. It sounds very like how Esme suffers from it.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 25 Feb 2025 13:16

It is a bit of a bold step to take all of the grass out if the back garden Ann, but it is on a slope and the grass has never been looked after by the previous people , so it isnt good quality. OH is going to pay someone to put some steps in as the slope gets very muddy in winter. He will then put some paths into the lower level himself and we will have large beds. I want to take care in putting some larger bushes in place, then lots if perennials

Poor Esme has her sickness thing again, it started yesterday morning. She has stopped being sick now, but is really poorly. My daughter texted this morning to tell me how she was, but then a second text came because Esme wanted to tell me that she wanted a new toy! So of course I swung into action and went to look in the town. I got her something and called in with it. She was in her mums bed with her mum working on her laptop next to her. She seemed pleased with my choice, but won’t be out of bed until much later.

I am going to my new volunteering this afternoon at the Memory Clinic. Apparently it is a domino drive this afternoon. I have played a fair amount, but I am not good at it. My father used to play regularly and he was very good, he could remember all of the different tiles which were still to be played. If I have more than one option in my hand, I have no idea which one would be the best one to put down. After I played, he would tell me that I shouldn’t have played that one because …. was still to be played. It was totally beyond me

Lovely to spend time with your grandson ginnie. Not sure about the dentist (not my favourite place) but having your hair done always makes you feel better.

Linda, I expect you will be glad when the fence is made and put up. and then maybe you can start on planning the garden. Worth taking time to plan it as you want something that you can live with for a long time.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 24 Feb 2025 16:39

It has been a money spending day here as well Ginnie. OH went to the sawmill this morning to order the wood for the new fence which he is building across the bottom of the garden. It is about fifteen metres long, so that is a lot of wood.
It was a nice day, so we dug out the plants which were along the fence, there weren’t many of them, just a few shrubs which came with us and some perennials which the neighbours over the fence gave us. The previous owners didn’t have any plants in the gardens, apart from a few on a rockery.

I went to Morrisons this afternoon and did a very big shop, although as usual, there weren’t many lots if gaps on the shelves, so I couldn’t get some of the things I needed

JustGinnie Report 24 Feb 2025 16:27

Well we have had some sunshine this afternoon after a downpour this morning. It would be nice to have some dry days just to get the garden drier so we can tidy it up a bit .

Had my hair cut and been to the dentist so a bit more money spent. lol.

G/son visited for the weekend . Lovely to see him .

I have decided that I need to sort out my and OH's wardrobe and get rid of all what we don't wear. Well that is the plan anyway.

Some of our binmen are on strike so council have decided to suspend recycling bins being collected. At the moment the household bins are being collected but it is a bit hit and miss in some areas.

It hasn’t been too bad here, just a bit if wind, but dark and drizzly. Now it is getting dark, the temperature is dropping, so Inwas glad to be able to close the curtains and hunker down for the ev.
I have had a lazy day, I just tinkered with the family tree this afternoon while OH was watching the rugby

Blowing a gale here this morning, and pouring with rain.
Huge puddles all over the garden.

It's only a 5-minute walk to church, but I'm taking the car today!

Good that you were right Sylvia and it is only a cold and best to stay isolated for now.

8 degrees here this morning but very dull. No rain so far and also no sign as yet of the winds for which we have a yellow warning. Roll on spring!!!

It was uplifting yesterday to see in the centre of town, a large patch of 'garden' which is mostly grass and low spreading plants, was full of beautiful snowdrops.

Ann ...................

we live in an earthquake zone, do get many many quakes but most of them are below about a rating of 3 so are rarely felt. It must be about 10/12 years since I last felt one. It was the same as this one, the ground shaking!

The Care Aide stopped by about 30 minutes ago to say that my test had come back Negative, and I could return to the community, although I've said I want to stay isolated until my cold symptoms are better. Waiting for my lunch to arrive right now!

LindainHerriotCountry Report 22 Feb 2025 16:23

You had us worried Florence, but I am glad that you enjoyed your break despite your noisy neighbours

It has been a sunny day here, but a bit chilly in the wind. This afternoon OH planted the large Cornus we bought yesterday. It is in the front lawn, looking a bit odd at the moment because it isn’t in the middle. He is going to dig some more beds out which will have shrubs planted in them, so eventually it will look better. At the moment, it is just a rectangular lawn with not a single flower or shrub. The previous owners didn’t have any imagination when it came to the gardens.

Florence61

Florence61 Report 22 Feb 2025 14:06

Afternoon folks
I'm back home safely after a few days away on the mainland.

It was a last minute break for my daughter and I and the night before I did try to get on the boards to let you all know but for some reason I couldn't log in to Genes.

We had a fun few days shopping etc and a few disasters but nothing major.
The lift broke in or hotel and I couldn't climb the stairs to get to our room. So i waited down stairs but they said it might be 4 hours until the engineer arrived!

Eventually they offered us a room on the ground floor and poor daughter had to pack up the room and lug it all down the stairs.

To top it all later that night around 9pm, the noise above us sounded like a herd of elephants charging around and it went on until 10pm. So by this time we had had enough so daughter went and complained to the manager and it quietened down,

Only to be woken up before 8 with the same noise!!!

Anyway, it was a good break away as no chores for 3 days, so what's not to like lol

Been busy so far doing all the washing and catching up.

Tomorrow is promising a severe storm hence the urgency to get all the laundry washed and dried before then.

Hope everyone looking in today is well and keeping ok.
