Social distancing

Sharron Report 22 May 2020 19:03

According to MSN, it is possible that social distancing might be reduced by ahalf to one metre.

What is the point of that?

Call me cynical but that looks more commercial than pragmatic to me.

Dermot Report 22 May 2020 19:41

Insane !

ZZzzz Report 22 May 2020 20:04

And the point is what exactly. By the way I’m cynical too.

Island Report 22 May 2020 20:05

MSN = More Silly Nonsense

Kense Report 22 May 2020 20:17

If it were SAGE recommending it, then I would be cynical but it is the WHO. Several countries use 1 metre as the distance.

maggiewinchester Report 22 May 2020 21:43

I just use as big a distance as I can! :-D

Lyndi Report 22 May 2020 21:59

Australia and I think it was Germany use 1.5 metres, and as Kense says, WHO say 1 metre, so a reduction might help a return to a more 'normal' life.

I have seen some reports of changes to some of our local roads to enable independent shops to reopen, In one case the High Street is so narrow they are talking of either totally pedestrianising the road, or making it one way for traffic and widening pavements to make room for people queuing safely outside shops. In an already pedestrianised road they are talking of bollards down the middle and one way walkers! Who would have thought this time last year that this is what could be happening soon :-(

Allan Report 22 May 2020 21:59

!.5m here in Oz and even that's too close :-|

SylviaInCanada Report 22 May 2020 22:38

The distance in Canada is

2 metres,

or 2 arms lengths,

or 1 hockey stick,

or 1 mature white sturgeon,

or 1 bicycle tyre to tyre,

or 1 cougar nose to tip of tail

or 1 large swimming pool foam noodle

:-D :-D :-D :-D

Bobtanian Report 22 May 2020 23:11

If I can smell their perfume, or if they are a smoker............too close!!!

Sharron Report 23 May 2020 00:13

If I can punch you in the mouth you are far too close.

Dermot Report 23 May 2020 06:29

Carrying a large blackthorn walking cane ensures very few come anyway near me.

Island Report 23 May 2020 11:04

So those of us who don't want anyone closer than 2 metres have no choice?

I saw an illustration of how pubs could re-open with 'safety measures' in place.
Hmmm...… alcohol and social distancing don't sound like a good match do they?
I get that the landlords need a livelihood but apart from the odd lone drinker, are pubs not for socialising?

JoyLouise Report 23 May 2020 12:18

With masks, Sharron?

We could borrow Island's, haha. ;-) ;-)
